Hi I have just got some blood results back from medicheck. I'm 51 and been on hrt for 5 years. I'm currently on femoston conti 0.5/2.5mg. The doctors message didn't really tell me anything
FSH 103. (25.8-134.
OESTRODIOL  111     (<100)
PROGESTERONE 0.887 (<0.401)
TESTOSTERONE 0.927 (0.101-1.42)
I know I'm post meno but was wondering to raise my dose xx

Which symptom do you feel needs sorting first even with the HRT?

I just wanted to what needed upping. My sweats are ok but I've got terrible joint pain. And as I'm on a very low dose, I was thinking of upping it. I just wondered if the levels were about right for someone on hrt who's post meno x

Low oestrogen levels may cause laxity of muscles = aches and pains. 

Maybe if you put the HRT into the search box you will get threads.  Make notes.

These are the results (as written) from Medichecks. The GP review said oestradol and progesterone raise and fsh normal. I thought they looked pretty low considering I'm on HRT XX

Tinacros, assuming that is pmol and not pg/mL, I would say that oestrogen reading is very low. 

Even when you allow for fluctuations that take place throughout the day, your levels should never be that low if using HRT.   

Perhaps you could move to a higher dose of Femiston?

If it's any help Newson clinic advised me that oestrogen levels should be above 300 to give good bone and cardio protection . So am guessing your levels are quite low ( mine are too). As others have said though you should go by your symptoms and if the dose isn't helping them all then try and up it and see how you go.

my progesterone level is 10 nmol is this high ?

Sammiejane I believe you are on utrogestan. When I was taking it vaginally by day 7 my reading was 35nmo/l . No longer using it as it didn't agree with me. Now on the Jaydess coil ( seeking alternative as not agreeing with me either )my readings are undetectable as I'm not producing any of my own progesterone  and synthetic progestins are not able to be picked up on blood tests. X

Thank you westie. I have had chronic joint pain and because I'm on ultra low femoston conti, I was wondering if I could up my oestrogen. I have some oestrogel at home. When I had my bloods done a couple of years ago my oestradiol was 258 on femoston 1/10. I wasn't asking for a ?normal? figure just a bit of advice. Thanks x

i've had hysterectomy and wa striating progesterone as i couldn't tollerate unopposed estrogen but am i getting to much

i noticed since adding it in i?m getting more watery sticky discharge and bladder irritation burning which also coincides with the day after using ovestin cream so not if it is that .

Hi Tinacros

The answer to your qiestion is no you should not add oestrogel to your current HRT prescription because there would then be insufficient progesterone to protect your womb so you would risk thickening and bleeding. Therefore if you want to increase oestrogen and the current HRT suits you then I would suggest either doubling to 1 mg ie two tabs (check with your doc) - eventually asking for the prescription for Femoston 1/5 or asking for a separate progestogen eg utrogestan or Provera to go with the gel you already have if you prefer to use this method.

Tinacros, I have topped up oral HRT with extra oestrogen in the past and I didn't have any problems as far as womb lining build up is concerned.   

I was using Angeliq (a continuous combined oral form of HRT) but the oestrogen dose was too low.  I decided to top it up with a 50mcg oestrogen patch and it was somewhat better but still too low.  My gynaecologist wasn't crazy about the idea but confirmed my own thoughts which were the worst thing that could happen would be a bleed out.  As it happens, I didn't bleed and the womb lining was well below 5mm.

Interestingly, the US form of Angeliq has a lower dose of progesterone than the European brand so my ratio of oestrogen to progesterone was probably very similar to that.

It's not an exact science but generally speaking, if you are taking progesterone every day but your dose of oestrogen is too high, you will bleed but if you were not using progesterone every day then you might get womb lining build up.

Obviously it would be better to simply take a higher dose of Femoston but this is not a great time to get an appointment with your GP.

Thanks for the advice. I'm thinking of going back to the oestrogel and utrogestan every other day as louise newton says. I know my womb lining is ok as I had a vaginal scan in December. I don't want to double the femoston and double the progresterone too. I'd stopped bleeding on femoston sequi, as well. I suffer with reflux problems etc and am on meds so might try another method in case I'm not absorbing it in my gut x

Just to add the progesterone in my femoston is 2.5mg.  If I switch to utrogestan 100mg every other night will that be a big jump x🙃
