Quarantine weight gain
« on: April 11, 2020, 05:32:11 PM »

I know most people are in the same boat in that this lockdown is leading to the extra biscuit and packet crisps so a wee bit of weight gain will be inevitable after this but my 17 year old daughter seems to have gone up at dress size. She was a 10/12 so would now be a 12/14.

She came through in tears cause she couldnt get her jeans closed I think theyve been tight a while as she said breathing in didnt work. I did wonder if it was bloating but it is quite visable shes put weight on as she getting a muffin top too and quad boob in her bra.

Dont want to go out and buy a totally new wardrobe for her as she usually goes to the gym 3 times a week but obviously missing out on that so she should lose it after lockdown. Might buy her a few new things just get by the now and obviously a new bra as I think that might be a bit of puberty rather than just the weight.

Any tips to help maybe even she online video work outs as my jeans are getting a bit tight too.

Thanks x

What about Joe Wickes every morning?  look on the TV Channel guides?  He's up too early for me  ;) though I know the neighbours do exercises with him - he's got quite a following.

Skipping.  Jogging on the spot.  Laying on a steady chair and making swimming movements?  I used to do the latter when training, I represented my School at a swimming gala ...... came 3rd  ::)

I'm not in2 exercise. We are allowed to walk so mayB a brisk step out early or late to avoid meeting others?  If U do it together it's a time to chat, wave to others, look at Spring arriving so not as confined as videos.

Try running up & down stairs if you're in a house.  Or put some music on and dance around!

I'm having the opposite problem - too stressed to eat, so the weight is dropping off me - it's a shame we can't do weight transfusions!

Thanks everyone all these suggestions have been really helpful. Have been going our daily walk but will try and do something else to break up the day from monday. Personally like the idea of joe wicks but that might just be me being naughty😜 But as has been said so easy to snack in front of the telly cause of boredom and we are all wearing our comfies so its creeping up on us. Mine is a wee bit down to the old menopause too though🙈

Have tried to reassure her that she can get back to the gym and back in shape once this is over but think everything is just a bit much for her at the moment. Lots of stress and crying but its the same for us all i suppose. Just want my girl to be happy.

Thanks again everyone x

Maybe she needs a project to get absorbed in? What are her interests? Having a goal takes away the need to snack. What does she enjoy doing? Something creative? Learning a language? Learning something new or getting better at something already accomplished? I'm learning Italian. I started with Duolingo, which is a free app. I now have lessons with an Italian teacher, which we do on FaceTime (Skype is hopeless here). I can't carry on with singing lessons or singing with my choir, but have joined in a virtual choir along with thousands of others. The warm up is exhausting. Loads of famous people are doing things online regularly. The days whizz by. I'm not bored.

The moment stress starts, my anxiety takes over so that I can't eat.   :'(

I tried Joe Wickes one morning but I have this thing where if I bend down I go dizzy and when he started telling me to touch my toes I had to give up or end up on the floor.

I did see Mr Motivator on TV and he is still incredibly fit after all these years away from TV and his workout looked good.

He doesn't look much different at all. The very tight outfit was rather distracting  :o

   is he on catch-up ?  ;)

I don't do any forward movements - have never been able to touch my toes so would miss out those bits.

My anxiety hits.  Fast  :'(.  Nausea, weak thighs, weak calves, on the floor ........ I then take an anti-anxiety capsule which either knocks me out or relaxes me so that I can continue.  Without the capsule I would stop eating within a couple of hours and then my head "You must eat, you must eat. "  :'(

Grazing helps.  Slow release foods eaten B4 my body requires energy.  I did step onto the scales earlier prior to cracking my Easter egg  ;)

Dorothy - are you really that stressed poor thing?

I think it's just that any stress or depression tends to affect my appetite - either I eat non-stop or I hardly eat at all.  I ate fairly continually for the first day of lockdown, but since then, most days I've only eaten one meal and that's a struggle to get down.  On a couple of days, I've managed two meals, but haven't had three meals a day since this began.

Trying to look on the bright side, I should be nice & slim for my wedding IF it happens!

How about slow release, i.e. bananas.

I do try to make myself eat bananas regularly as I know they are meant to be good for you.  I'm sure it's true, since most things that taste disgusting are good for you.  ;D
