Vitamin D - dosage
« on: April 04, 2020, 11:37:17 AM »

I have seen on here and elsewhere that vit D is often deficient in menopausal women and in most people in the winter. I also heard it is good for the immune system so thought I'd give it a go. I got a bottle of cod liver oil. Anyone any idea about dosage? 1 spoon a day, every other day? I know that you shouldnt over do it. Hopefully the sunshine will make it unnecessary soon.

I had a call from doc last week that my vit d is very low. I'm now on 20,000 a day for 2 weeks she stressed I must take it.

Anyone seen the reports going around from Ireland about vit d and respiratory infections ? I can post link but not sure if this is right place.

Cod liver oil.   my mum was forced to take a spoon a day as a child and like CLKD the thought of it makes her gip .

But it does seem to have its benefits shroplass.  Heres some info which talks about dosing

Hi Shropshirelass,

I am deficient in Vit D and the Doc put me on a daily low-ish dose. It is not really there for immunity but more for bone and heart health and prevention of problems related with those. You are right though that menopausal women can be more in need sometimes...due to lack of hormones or minimal doses of HRT. I am on a doseage of HRT that just gives me cover for osteoporosis but as I have other health issues so therefore preferable that my vitamin D is adequate.
I take 10 ug a day and I buy the tabs from Boots......there is 90 in a pot so 3 months worth. :-)

Mine are  d3 20,000 Iu daily.  It's a whacking dose. Been on them 5 days.  Acid reflux yes.  even though I take omprazole.for it which usually works.

It says on my instructions take with largest meal of day to maximise absorption.  I have heard it can cause constipation but not so far with me.  But they are making me feel sick.

That seems a large dose.  What does it say on the box? i.e. equivalent to?

Hi Tc

Just to say I thought that proton pump inhibitors (which I think Omeprazole is one) affected absoprtion of vitamins etc from the diet?  Might be an idea to stop taking it while you're trying to up the vit D given how low you are? I'm not an expert on this though. Could you take indigestion tabs instead, the pepperminty ones or Milk of Mag both of which I always use when affected by digestion problems?
