Spotting and UTI
« on: March 21, 2020, 09:18:47 PM »

Hi all, i've been in peri for around 4/5 years, I started sequi patches last summer but then ran out at the end of the year and into the New Year so have been waiting for them to come back into stock. They seemed to really help with my joint pain and flushes. I had a UTI around January and I've noticed in the last couple of months some spotting after sex (which isn't very often!), I'm now wondering if the two are connected and I have VA. I didn't connect the two up until now. Or should I be more worried and have a smear test? (I have had them at the regular times, but I guess the last one was a couple of years ago). And to top it all, I asked the chemist today if my new prescription was in, which was for Evorel 50 and Conti as I thought I could use them instead of the Sequi (and I knew they were back in production) and lo and behold they had the sequi waiting for me but said they didn't have my number to contact me! no idea how long it has been sitting there. Now I don't know whether to start on the patches again because I have this 'unexplained' bleeding. Has anyone else had this? I just wonder if me coming off the patches created too much of a drop in estrgen levels. Thanks for reading x

Was it an infection? Was a fresh mid-stream urine sample sent to a Lab for testing?

Ring your Surgery and ask for appropriate vaginal atrophy treatment.  You don't need blood tests or an intimate examination and you may find that the surgery is willing to prescribe.  It won't do harm and will ease symptoms!  Keep a mood/food/symptom diary too ;-)

Thanks so much for replying! Yes I think it was, I got a short course of antibiotics when it didn't clear up and it went away immediately. OK I will ring the surgery and see what they say, I am just hoping it's not something more sinister! I have just started with the new batch of patches as I would have still been on them had the production not stopped. Trying to stay positive in this weird time, thanks again and hope you are OK.  :)

Oh I'm fine as long as I don't look further than half a day ahead! [what is it with predictive text  >:( ]

If the vaginal area is very dry then there may be spotting or it could be the HRT.

Have a read of the vaginal atrophy threads on here.  Also, as oestrogen levels drop the whole body may become dry: inside and out  >:(

Yep I have just had to calm my partner down who is catastrophising about work/money etc I think the best we can do just now is deal with the present situation we find ourselves in. Yes I will look at those threads, got lots of extra time on my hands! I have noticed that skin is alot drier all over, thanks again. x

The insteps on both feet itched; the back of my shoulders itched; scalp .... deep in my ears.  Eyes.  Nostrils  :o and then.  The VAGINA  >:(  ::)

If anyone is worrying about money right now, get the bank statements from the last 6 months and prioritise.  Take note of what the Government is offering to see if you qualify.  We won't be needing much except food/laundry/bubble bath for a while ;-).

Hi kinola67

Notwithstanding all the other reasons for the spotting eg VA and stopping the patches, any spotting or bleeding after sex should be investigated. Your doc may do an internal or may do a smear but best not to ignore it. I know we are in extreme circumstances but the other health conditions are still being investigated. It's probably a simple explanation but do check.

Thanks everyone, yes I am convincing myself it's too much of a coincidence to have stopped HRT and then become really 'dry' soon afterwords. And also convincng myself I wouldn't have known anything about the bleeding other than on these two occasions. But regardless I will see if can get a call back from a GP next week, I guess they are all still carrying on as best they can and phone calls will make life easier for them rather then face to face appts. I think the stress of everything going on isn't helping, I am normally really positive and have learnt this through CBT which I got when peri first started, although I didn't know that's what it was then! But as I'm sure you can all agree it's been an exhausting week, trying to keep the family organised and not stressing is so tiring. I will turn my mind to all the govt info soon, just need to rid myself of the brain fog first. Stay safe everyone and I am thinking of all the folk who are stuck in terrible situations during this time. x

Hi there, sorry such a long delay, for some reason I couldn't find the notifications re replies! So since I last posted I did phone the surgery and got a call back that day! and then he said to come in a day later, fastest reactions I've ever had! they have no face to face patients just now so are doing everything by phone and only seeing folk they think they need to see. I saw one of our female doctors, she took a look and said the cervix looked a bit inflamed but generally OK and that yes there was some VA (not sure what she meant by 'some'), she checked when I'd last had an ultrasound to check the womb lining thickness, it was a while ago so sent the request through for that, they phoned immdiatley and I had that yesterday - again there are no patients in the hospital other than those that need to be there so the scan dept was completely empty. Call came in today to say all was fine and start with Ovestin daily. So now I have to research that of course but at least I know it's VA rather than anything sinister. I had worried about wasting their time but as our area doesn't seem to be too busy with emergency covid cases, it was all fine and infact the doctor was pleased to have seen a real person that day, she said she didn't have any more patients in that day! I'm about to search what folk are saying about the Ovestin cream. Hoping it's not a big no no... or is it!?! Feel I'm learning so much on my 'journey'.....x

I'm sure you'll be fine with Ovestin, it is one of the two standard treatments for VA. The other is Vagifem, a tiny pessary. The advantage with Ovestin is that you can also apply a little to the labia, as well as using it internally.

Glad you got such good treatment in these troubled times, when so many other conditions are being neglected.

Thanks JP, that's reassuring to know, yes that's good you can use it for the outside bits too. I hope everyone that needs attention will get it, my sis in law was diagnosed with breast cancer recently and luckily had her lumpectomy yesterday, she just needs to hear what they need to do next but I guess if the hospitals get busy then her treatment might not be as fast as it should be. I was reassured to see on the news tonight that our hospitals are very well prepared. Stay safe and well everyone!
