Dizziness and low mood but no hot flashes
« on: March 12, 2020, 04:19:32 PM »

Hello,

I believe I am perimenopausal because I am 49 and I will be 50 in October this year.
I have missed a few periods and I now sort of have them every 3 months.  Since 2018 I have been experiencing mild to moderate dizziness and since july I started feeling low and anxious.  I do get nauseous from time to time and I get chilling  sensations as well as feeling hot during the night.  But don't really suffer from hot flushes.  Has anyone experienced the same.  Do these symptoms stop once the menopause has been reached?

Thanks everyone

Hi yes all of that sounds like menopause. I didn't get hot flushes during the day for a long time after other symptoms started.

Everyone is different, so the symptoms might stop once post menopausal or they might get worse. X

Hi there,

Thanks for your reply.

I was under the impression that, once menopause has occurred, i.e. after 12 months without a period,  the symptoms don't get worse and should lessen because the body, by this time, should have adjusted itself to the new hormone level.

Also my main worry is not really hot flushes but emotional issues arising because of menopause.  I understand that some women get depression.  I'm quite worried about this because it's difficult to treat.

Hello Karine T and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to hear that you are suffering with your symptoms of the menopause.

We all begin with an idea of how long it will take for our hormones to settle but everyone is different. There can be a range of experiences  and hopefully other ladies will be along soon to advise you.

Wishing you well and take care.

Hi unfortunately it's not the case that everyone feels better post menopause . Some do and some don't . My symptoms became a lot worse 3 years post menopause but other ladies feel much better. Everyone is different xx

Hi Dotty,

But did you experience low mood and anxiety all the time, even 3 years after you reached menopause?

I understand everyone is difference but what symptoms were worse 3 years after menopause?  Were you able to minimise them?  As for HRT I am not on it.  I'm reluctant to take it because I'm worried that the symptoms will resume the minute I stop.

I'm worried that these horrible symptoms are going to get worse now that you've told me yours did Dotty but at the same time I'm hoping for the best.  It's quite complicated because not everyone gets the same.

They may not get worse. They may get better. X

Yes totally agree with Dotty.
Your symptoms may get better or they may get worse.
But if they do get worse and you can't function, then is the time it see the doc and discuss HRT.
it's about your quality of life.
On the other hand, you may be able to cope with your symptoms, and choose not to go down that route. Unfortunately, it's a wait and see situation. Only you can decide what to do about it. How long symptoms last for is anyone's guess. Everyone's different.
Good luck anyway, let us know how your getting on. xx

The majority of people get better. I think that we should always remember this.

Hi there
I'm experiencing all of this at the mo  :'( I'm 51 52 in July and have just started missing periods ie haven't had one since January 10th not long but everything has got far worse in this time! I don't get hot flushes but everything you have described and more  every day at the mo. The low mood is very hard to manage but fluctuates from day to day or hour to hour even. One minute I want to cry then I'm laughing then I'm shouting my head off for no reason 😳 but Im aware of my hormones every minute of the day unfortunately. I truly empathise it's rotten what some of us have to suffer 😕

Mumalmighty, this dizziness is horrible and sometimes I get this horrible opression feeling in the stomach, as if I'm about to go into a total panic.  The erratic periods suggests that I will enter menopause soon.  I did Menocheck test, this tests the level of AMH (anti mullerian hormone) which is produced by the ovaries. They are able to give you an accurate estimate as to when you will have your final menstrual period.  This is the time when a woman enters menopause.  I was told that mine is low which means perimenopause should stop soon.  I really want this nightmare to end asap.  I hope that yours will end soon as well.  I do hope that this transitional period is not the beginning of worse things to come.

KarineT I totally know what you mean with the anxious stomach along with the dizziness! If It happens when I'm talking to people I have to try and disguise it I think I must look completely vacant! Mine seems to linger all across my midriff beneath my chest like my internal organs are being wrung out or squeezed and I believe it's when I'm subconsciously worrying about my symptoms thinking it's something terminal. I've had a terrible time lately! That's really interesting actually the test you had it would be lovely to have some idea of when your periods will end completely. I feel so strange like hormonal but no sign of a period not the usual feelings I would get like I've totally dried up but I?ll be amazed if this is the beginning of my 12 months being as I've only ever been very irregular up until now so missing them altogether is new! I've gone later , Earllier longer shorter lighter heavier but never missed ive had various symptoms for years but nothing like now. I've decided to not consider HRT purely as I've read enough to know that getting it right can be difficult enough and I really just would like to get it out of the way as I'm very good at pretending everything is ok. Yes I moan and groan to hubby and friends but I make light of it Cos none of them are going through it and can't begin to understand so I suffer mainly in silence and that's why I joined this forum 3 yrs ago as in times of desperation this is where I turn for answers and some understanding about what I'm going through!
I've not had a bad day today although I've just started to feel woozy sat here and the stomach churning is starting up 😫 let's just hope we are getting the worst out of the way now and post meno is going to be a breeze 😬 hope you start to feel better I do try to say to myself its just hormones ignore it! Easier said that done i know 🙄😆
