Side effects or allergic reaction with estrogel/oestrogel
« on: March 09, 2020, 01:30:33 PM »

Hi ladies

I am wondering if anyone else has had any bad side effects or allergic reaction to using oestrogel?

I used it for under 3 months. After a couple of weeks of using it, I noticed slight breathlessness. I also noticed that I had a very much increased appetite. After a few more weeks the breathlessness had turned to more gasps for breath. By this time I had also noticed a change to my breast tissue. It was hardened and lumpyish. I usually never have lumpy feeling breasts so this bothered me also.

The worst was the gasping for breath. The medics told me to come off it immediately. I had not even realised that this could be linked to it causing a blood clot, which is why I think they were so adamant to come off it immediately.

I think this may have been an allergic reaction?!

It also caused fibroid growth.

Has anyone else had any similar side effects using oestrogel?

I kept the leaflet in the packet and sure enough, it does say breathing difficulty as one of the many side effects.

Very interested to know if I am a one off case or if anyone else has had this.

X

Hi Jari, I have recently switched from femoston 2/10 to estrogel and have been experiencing breathlessness, I am on 2 pumps and 10mg Provera. I wasn't sure if I'm absorbing the estrogen more through the gel than I was on the tablet form and I'm reacting to that, or if like you say, it's an allergic reaction. I had a pounding headache for 4 days and this breathlessness has been going on for around 11 days. With the current situation though I was wondering if its hrt related or I have coronavirus 🤔 x

One squirt estrogel gave me a 10 day pounding migraine, I've never touched it again. Patches have no side effect. It might be the carrier liquid, think it has an alcohol base, ethanol ?.

Hi Smokey123,

I would really keep an eye on this. My breathlessness started I think about 2 weeks after I started estrogel. It got progressively worse up until 2 and a bit months. I was told to come off it immediately.
I believe it can be a cause of blood clots so do be careful and keep a close eye on it. X

When I came off it (overnight) the breathlessness started to fade over the next days, so you could try that if you?re worried... so you can see if it's that that's causing it... ?! X

No side effects for me either. Smokey I agree with jari. I think you should speak to your gp urgently. If it was me I would stop using it immediately, it isn't worth the risk.

Hi Jari. Not the side effects you described but I did have a terrible rash, like bad prickly heat anywhere I used it. I moved onto patches as I just didn't get on with it at all.
