HRT - Oestrogel and Utrogestan
« on: March 08, 2020, 03:12:38 PM »

My GP prescribed me the above on 29th January. I started using it that night - 2 pumps of gel and one 100mg capsule of Utrogestan orally. I felt ok-ish for two weeks, no real improvements, a bit of breast ache and low tummy twinges, like I was ovulating. I was on the mini pill too (Cerazette). Then by the third week I felt awful. Like I was having some kind of breakdown. Very weird, depressed, panicky. I went to the GP who didn't help much but reassured me I was ok and possibly struggling with a virus. I did have a sore throat and slight fever and congestion high in my chest. The following week I had a slight improvement some days and one day felt pretty good. I noticed my sleeping was getting better too but by the Friday I was back at the emergency doctors with very hight BP and feeling like I was about to collapse. He said he thought I was taking far too much progesterone so I stopped taking the mini pill and he agreed to me using Utrogestan every other day vaginally. That new routine started last Saturday, so 8 days ago. The week started off ok and by Wednesday felt brilliant, so much so I cried tears of relief as I could see 'me' again after so long of not seeing me. But then on Thursday anxiety started creeping in, same Friday and the weekend has been a real mix of extremes - feeling positive one minute and very low the next. It's so, so strange and I've no idea what's going on. I had hoped HRT would be kicking in by now. My sleep has improved, morning anxiety lessening and night sweats almost gone... so it IS working. As seeing as my boobs feel tender etc I know the gel must be absorbing. But how long do you realistically give it to really work and make you feel 'like a new woman' again... because that's what my GP promised me! :) I'm also wondering about upping my pumps of gel? Has anyone any advice or experienced similar on the same combination? Any help very much appreciated xx

Hi the suggestion is that it can take 3 - 6 months to see full improvement.

I improved after a month on gel, but it took a lot longer to see full improvement and it only worked properly once I was on the right dosage.

So, try and be patient and there will be ups and downs along the way.

Thank you :) Wow that seems such a long time. I guess you have to get into the mindset that not every day is going to be a great day and if its not, not to get too preoccupied by it and start thinking the worst. I have GAD and fret about everything and menopause has heightened this which I'm finding hard. As for the gel, I read 2 pumps is kind of the norm for most women but would it hurt if I tried another?
