Anyone Use Vagifem As a Low Dose HRT?
« on: March 07, 2020, 08:12:21 PM »

Hello ladies.

I am off  HRT atm  and have mild VA for which I am using YesVM moisturiser and that is working well so far.

Although Vagifem is a topical treatment I think some ladies have reported that it can also affect the whole body as well. I was wondering  if Vagifem can  be used as a very low dose HRT.  Doing this would be a way to obtain a little more oestrogen without having to use progesterone.

This is probably a crazy idea but I would like to hear everyone's opinions. Has anyone tried this approach with good results? My quivers and tearfulness have been constant today so I'm trying to come up with some ideas before I have to turn to drink lol.

Take care everyone and I look forward to reading any comments.

I have wondered that myself.  I use vagifem daily and haven't noticed anything unusual.

Using it twice a week is the equivalent to one HRT pill a year, once the vagina has swelled up the absorption is so minuscule it can't be registered.

Ladies who have had oestrogen receptive breast cancer can & do use it ( under guidance of oncologist) so if it was seen as a low dose HRT it wouldn't be suggested.

Breast feeding mums also use it.

Kathleen,
I used it alone from 2012 - 2016 (post meno) and no it wasn't enough for me, and I was miserable for most of those 4yrs.

Because I'd had a bad experience on Femosten, and thought (wrongly) that there was no other HRT option I suffered in silence.  Now I'm more enlightened and found something that really works for me I feel quite bad about those 'lost' 4yrs, however there weren't any long term consequences, luckily.

I would recommend you try Vagifem or Ovestin for your VA anyway, symtons may be mild now but can escalate quite quickly and can then take a while to  be manageable.  If you benefit fron taking this in other ways then its a bonus.

Hello again ladies

Thank you all for your replies.

My VA is responding well to Yes moisturiser atm but I hoped that a switch to Vagifem  would have other benefits.

Oh well, back to the drawing board!

Thanks again ladies and take care.

I also have very mild VA Kathleen and have recently started using Vagifem, after just using YES VM.  I am now in the twice a week stage and have noticed three things.

Firstly, my inner labia is more moist and more comfortable. I was having to moisturise with yes daily to stay comfortable

I have a small amount of discharge, where there was nothing before

The itching of the outer skin from eczema has reduced.

Got the go ahead for repeat prescriptions today, feel fine, no side effects, bp fine.

Go for it Kathleen.
