Oestrogen level
« on: March 02, 2020, 12:11:46 PM »

Hi everyone
Not been on her for a while, as things were "steady" .
I had my hormone levels checked by consultant to see where I am on this journey.. anyway I am no longer peri menopausal but menopausal, I've not got appt until 16th dec ! And cant get in at drs.. I had telephone consultation on fsh level and lh , they said now menopausal.. what's the difference?  But she couldnt comment on my oestrogen levels as she doesnt usually test.
Anyway my question is  does anybody know what the measurement <100 means in my oestrogen test? I've no idea? The reason I'm asking is my hot flushes have returned  the low mood and anxiety, does anyone know if this low or high or normal??
Thank you x

Hi you are classed as menopausal when you are 12 months without a period.

Less than 100 is a low oestrogen reading if you are taking hrt. X

Hi
Thanks Dotty, well I'm only 8 months so dont understand why she said menopausal, she said my fsh and lh shows menopausal,  I take 1mg daily of oestrogen, so maybe I need to increase?

Hi LW44 - lab that just tested my oestradiol cites <189 as postmenopausal.  So yes yours is low if <100.

Yes LW44 but low dose & only back on it approx 10 months after a 15 month break.  Started HRT in 2015 when 3 years postmenopause & my oestradiol at that time was too low to be measurable @ <44.  Had had a protracted peri with severe symptoms but had reason to avoid HRT, which I deferred for more than a decade until I was on my knees with no sign of symptoms stopping.

Have only just had the new regimen tested to see how much I was absorbing from the tiny 25mcg patch & turns out twice as much as I got from double the oestrogen dose in Evorel Conti!  My oestradiol is still only in postmeno range though, probably explaining why symptoms persist.  About to see Cons about next step.

Can I ask what you're taking that's giving you fairly poor absorption?  Sounds like you need to change type as has already been suggested.

I am taking 1mg of progynova tab,  I'm not currently taking any progesterone as severely intolerant :-/  that's why blood tests to see where I am and work out if I can go on 3 monthly ultrogeston and up my oestrogen to 2mg to help,   I'm struggling to get into drs and my next consultant appt is dec !  So I'm going to take 1.5mg to see if takes edge of the flushes and low mood/tiredness and keep trying the drs  x

Oh Dec?? ::)  Far too long to wait in those circs.  Yes, do keep trying for a GP appt.  Maybe consider gel or patch for better absorption if you haven't yet?  The patch I get good absorption from (& others on here have reported the same) is Estradot & out of the gels I found Sandrena more effective than Oestrogel - going on symptoms - neither was tested.  Gosh, I hope you manage to get seen soon.  Please keep us updated if you have time?

Estradot is the brand of patch - oestradiol is the form of oestrogen the patches contain.
