Author Topic: Vaginal utro again, does pushing capsule up stop bladder irritation?  (Read 1435 times)

Sorry for the extra question on vaginal utro.
I have been looking round the forum to see if my question can be answered, but not got very far, although you women are very informative.

I wrote a post in 2015 about pushing capsule high, but was drinking lots and lots of water then, more than I needed.

I make sure I stay hydrated but still get bladder irritation and urinary frequency. A lady helpfully suggested vagifem, with the gretest of respect, I read on here that it too can cause bladder irritation.

I have the following questions, sorry.

1)I think my bladder irritation is caused by vaginal utro and I would like to know if any women have found that pushing the capsule up as  high as it will go will help?

2)If so, what is the best position to insert the capsule so that it goes high up?

3)I hear you can get an applicator, will this ensure it goes high up?

4) If so, where can I get one?

Thanks

Hi Dandelion

Yes I find that vag utro does irritate the bladder while I am using it and often get itchiness as well. I doubt whether position of the caspule would have any effect on this as the stuff just oozes out overnight as well as being absorbed. I have to get up more at night when using it and maybe go more during the day (not sure about the latter). I just use my fingers and push up as far as it will go and it seems to disappear around my cervix somewhere. The utrogestan that comes with applicators is for fertility - the 200 mg dose; because it is not licensed for vaginal use for HRT no applicators are provided. I also find that vagifem irritates my bladder although local oestrogen overall helps genito-urinary syndrome. Not sure about the bladder specifically though - I don't think it is indicated just for that - I seem to remember reading somewhere? As long as you are not getting an infection and providing plenty of oestrogen generally I'm not sure anything can be done? I just accept it as part of the treatment I am using. Maybe others will say different?

hi Hurdity

Just looked at this thread, I did push it up as high as it would go and in the laying down position and made sure I stayed laid down whether or not I wanted to go.
I was woken up in the night with the urge, but ignored it until this morning. I left the light off so dunno if wee is concentrated but will drink plenty throughout today
Thanks for explaining applicator thing to me, shame its not licenced vaginally here, or that we cannot order one from abroad though.

If you're only using Utrogestan on a sequential regime, you could try using Vagifem for the other weeks. It would plump up your vaginal tissues and may help reduce the irritation whilst using Utro. Over all it would only amount to roughly the same as using Vagifem every other day which many women do.

It would mean of course you'd be using Vagifem for half the month, Utro for half the month, so always pushing something 'up there' - which might be a problem if you're in a relationship!

Unfortunately a degree of bladder irritation may be a side effect one has to grin and bear if you want to avoid using the capsules orally.
Hi stellajane

Thanks too for your reply. I am on conti.
My vag is ok its my bladder.
I don't mind minor bladder irritation, its the not being able to empty it and going ridiculous amounts of the time that bother me.

Yes, but Vagifem can also drastically improve bladder issues.

I never suffered from dryness or pain vaginally but had bladder frequency and cystitis type symptoms (with no infection ever detected).

Using Vagifem has sorted the bladder issues out.

Vaginal atrophy can present as a problem with the bladder.  It also sounds to me as though you might possibly have a degree of prolapse if you have difficulty emptying.

In your position, quite honestly, I wouldn't do continual vaginal Utro - I'd concentrate on using Vagifem, but its your call of course.
Hi Stellajane
GP did an internal re prolapse and was happy, she said lots of women my age have some pelvic floor weakness but she was happy my 75mcg oestrogen was helping me.
My vagina doesn't atrophied or irritated with being on a big oestrogen dose.
GP gave me bladder training excercises, ie, not going when I feel the urge and gradually making gaps bigger.
She also told me about double voiding, but that hasnt worked. Also, she did a demo on how to wiggle about so that residual urine would come out but that never worked.

???  I thought the thread was started because you had irritation from Utro capsule?

You've confused me now - it doesn't take much!
Sorry I confused you, I did and still do speculate that utro is causing me bladder irritation, hopefully scan will move things along re cause.
I started thread because I wanted to know if pushing up utro higher into my vagina will stop the irritation and frequent visits.
Today has been better, ensuring I stay hydrated, not going every 20 mins and trying to train my bladder to need the loo less frequently.
I ignored the urge to go at silly o clock this morning in bed, and went when i got up instead.

When the capsule is in your vagina, wherever you place it, it melts, and it does (in my opinion) irritate the bladder. I always need to get up to the loo more during the night when using it. For that reason I could never contemplate using it vaginally every day.

In contrast I have found that using Vagifem definitely reduced my night time loo trips after the first few weeks of getting used to it. After starting Evorel conti patches, I found that I was using Vagifem much  less frequently as I didn't need it so much during the day but my  night time loo trips increased again. I have gone back to using Vagifem  about 4 times a week and I am starting to sleep through more frequently. I have a uro gynae follow up appt. tomorrow and I am going to mention this to her.
