This is getting ridiculous !
« on: February 25, 2020, 07:09:14 PM »

 Hi ladies

Been trying to stick with gel and utro for 5 months now but still getting side effects and consequently, I keep stopping and starting.  My muscles and joints are sore and aching, I've got a background headache all the time and I've got a stuffy nose, watery eyes and I feel like I've got 'stuff' running down the back of my throat.  When I have a break this all goes for a while but then, what I suppose are symptoms, come back.

I wondered if anybody else has had these side effects and whether they subsided, eventually?

It's been over 2 years now that I've been trying to find something that suits me, after being on Prempak, so as you can imagine, I'm getting to end of my tether !!  I have tried stopping altogether because I thought maybe I just don't need it anymore but I only lasted 16 days before symptoms returned.  I don't suffer with hot flushes, night sweats, anxiety or depression, it's just these flu/virus like symptoms that are so debilitating.

Sorry to be such a misery but any advice you can offer, would be appreciated.

Thanks all.

May I suggest a visit to your GP to rule out other causes, since you don't get flushes or night sweats?
It may be a minor ailment that is causing these issues, and if so, hope your GP can help so you get relief.

The background headache could be down to continuous progesterone but I wouldn't have thought that the nose and fluey symptoms are due to HRT. Acheing joints? Hmm can be due to all sorts of things - low oestrogen, thyroid malfunction, various vitamin deficiencies - how are you for vitamin D - this is the worst time of year if your diet is not giving you enough? As Dandelion says I would go to the doc to get checked out unless you have had blood tests etc already?

Thanks for replying so quickly ladies.

Dotty...this is the whole thing....I really don't know what are symptoms and what are side effects.  I can only think they are side effects as they go when I have a break.

I think I will need to go back to GP as this just can't be right.  I'm due to go on a Med cruise Sunday week for our 40th wedding anniversary so will go after that.  I just need to try to manage things in the meantime so that it doesn't ruin yet another holiday.

I have had bloods done for thyroid, vit d etc and all came back ok.  I really am at a loss.

Thank you ladies xx

Hi Dotty....it was mostly fatigue, nausea and palpitations but I also still had the aching joints and muscles.  I feel I've lost my way because some of the symptoms and side effects seem similar.  I'm thinking I might have something else wrong with me but I've only had all these problems since I had to change HRT.  Could be coincidence I suppose 😏

Thanks again.

Can you not see GP before cruise?
in our surgery, if you phone at opening time, you get a same day appointment.
It could be another simple ailment which GP can  help you with, but I dont know much about medical stuff, just a guess, it could be anything that a GP can put right so that you can go and enjoy your cruise.
Hope not to sound bossy, just seems a shame not to see GP who could explain your symptoms and why you are getting them, maybe take more bloods for other stuff, not meaning to scare you, might be something simple that is making you feel off that GP can help you with so you go on cruise feeling better.

Thanks Dandelion and you?re not sounding bossy at all 😊 I'm sure I will be able to get an appointment next week some time, even if it's a phone call.  To be honest, I think my GP, lovely as she is, is running out of ideas but I think I need to ask the question if the symptoms I'm getting could be due to something else.  I just don't think I should be feeling so much worse from taking HRT 😞

Thanks again for your support.

Hi Rosie
I'm not a doctor, but I definitely think that non meno issues as a cause of your problems are worth exploring with your GP.
I don't know about your surgery, but in our surgery, phone calls are more rushed, I find it best to do face to face, and take a list of bullet points for doc to read as its quicker for them and  me.
Can you not ring first thing to get a same day appointment like our surgery?
Thanks

Some surgeries don't have a same day policy.  Due to part time GPs or lack of over all staff.  Which is why people end up in A&E inappropriately.

Some surgeries offer phone consultants which is better than nothing.  If necessary the GP/Nurse can suggest appropriate treatment.

That's a shame, I must consider myself lucky that I can get a same day appointment at my surgery.
It can still be a problem though, I phoned at opening time 7.59 - 8am, and kept ringing till it opened, but was 8th in line, so many callers and by that time, only one appointment was available.

Same in many places.  Sadly.  I do wonder how many of those early morning callers are after results  ::)

If I am very ill I go to the waiting room to sit and wait  :-\

Our surgery must be pretty organised, because we have a menu for appts, results, prescriptions etc, and I think calls get routed to different parts of the surgery, for instance, the appointment girls are upstairs taking the calls and main reception downstairs.
It's a big surgery, I just think that it's difficult to get through first thing without avoiding a queue, possibly due to staff shortages etc.

Hi Rosie,
Just to stick my "two pe'nneth" in.  It might be that the type of hrt doesn't suit you.  I did have runny nose problems and headaches and sore joints and a list of symptoms as long as you're arm and tried 6 forms of hrt before I could get any of them to go away.  It just might be that you haven't got the right hrt out of the long list that sorts out your symptoms.  Not every type works the same way in every person.
