Hysterectomy, oorphectomy and immune system
« on: February 24, 2020, 05:25:05 PM »

Hi lovely people, I had well everything out on the 4th of October 2019. It all went really well and generally I've been feeling pretty good BUT I seem really open to viruses. Two weeks after the op I caught something that floored me and went into the vestibular nerve in my ear which was horrendous now I've a cold that's gone to my eye! My eye of all places! I look like I've been fighting.

Has anyone else struggled with lowered immunity post op? Is it due to menopause or surgery recovery? Many thanks x

Hello Sarokel, welcome to the forum.

A bit of both I should think. Have you been given any oestrogen replacement? If not, being low in hormones won't help matters. I was OK post op as I was put on oestrogen almost straight away, but when it was withdrawn a few years later by an ignorant GP I seemed to get everything going. Hope your eye gets better soon.

Hi Joaniepat,

Yes I'm on oestrogen gel and very recently testosterone gel, maybe I need more than 2 pumps of the oestrogel, or of course it could just be a run of bad luck

Have you had bloods done to see what your oestrogen level is? You said doing well otherwise, no hot flushes or any of the other classic symptoms? Some folk don't absorb too well on the gel, myself included, though most are fine on it.

What about vitamins, especially vitamin D at this time of year.

Hi Joaniepat,

No blood tests on estrogen levels but I'm fairly confident I'm absorbing it ok, when I was moved onto estrogel I was recommended 4 pumps a day and my boobs were killing me, plus fingers had that premenstrual puffiness, at the moment 2 pumps a night and one every second day in the morning seems to work well. My energy is good, my endurance for running and CrossFit is good it's just these darned infections

Hi SammieJane,

None whatsoever as yet, testosterone is early days though I'm only at a month on it right now. On the whole I feel far better than I did pre op, I can run for longer, don't get as tired no more irritable premenstrual bladder. The hrt very much seems to agree with me, the only thing I could count as a side effect is when I was on a higher dose of estrogel my boobs really hurt, when I dropped it down though that went away

Oh wow that's a long time to have sore boobs! Glad it settled, I haven't noticed hair shedding but now I'm worrying 😂

How are you feeling generally?

sarokel

you may be fine with the hair shedding but a few people on this forum have experienced it with the gel but i tried patch before and i think either changing from patch to gel triggered shedding or estrogen itself on its own so i?m doing my own regime of gel and progesterone at the moment but that has come with unwanted side effects from progesterone upset tummy sore throat flu like symtoms dry cough slight bladder irritation so will see how i go but if my hair starts shedding again i shall be stopping x lol

That sounds awful, so sorry. I was never able to tolerate progesterone, even my own. Pms and pregnancy were awful and don't even get me started on the contraceptive pill

hi

i had awful pregnancies morning sickness throughout i think due to high hormones. x
i am doing ok on the regime still have no energy i?m on 2 pumps and headaches bloating is back and as i apply the gel on my arms they are becoming heavy i used to use on my thighs but didn't like the feel of it on my legs x

on the progesterone i have upset tummy diarrhea and a little nausea but the one thing that troubling me is bladder irritation i?m using ovestin 2 times a week and i?m not sure if it's progesterone or the ovestin but seems worse since adding in progesterone so not sure if i need more estrogen to compensate or to just change and stop progesterone and go onto patch as i won't take gel on its own for fear of hair shedding again x i?m at my Gp wednesday so will discuss with her x
