I do everything I can. Don't drink. Don't really do carbs/sugar. Eat small amounts. Exercise.
And yet, I'm about 8-10lbs more than I want to be. It drives me mad.
I'm post meno, off HRT. It wasn't any better on HRT.
Any thoughts?
Sorry to hear this noheroicsplease - but I am in the same position.....although I probably eat more carbs and alcohol than you! I eat quite a lot but quite strictly to food types etc most of the time ie low fat, lowish carbs, loads of fruit and veg. I do get very hungry though. I am on full HRT and testosterone (I sometimes wonder if that is partly responsible). I am definitely half a stone heavier than I want to be and that I have been even in recent years.
Elkwarning - it is far healthier not to be overweight and it is easy for it to slide on as you get older and for women just to get used to the new (slightly) larger size. I have a rule never to buy larger clothes and therefore if they start to get tight I am overweight. In any case there are tables etc of ideal weight ranges and BMI and although I don't think they take into account body shape ( ie frame szie - not distinguishing betwene petite and larger boned people) neverthelss it gives an approx guide. I am now at the upper end of healthy BMI for my height ( I am larger frame size) so that is enough for me. I would NEVER want to enter into the "overweight" category.
I don't know the answer noheroicsplease - I think I need to be stricter but I do get hungry like I said. I think eating slowly, and portion control - stopping as soon as satisfied - is probably key? I tend to eat more in the eve than I should I think ( although not usually any carbs at eve meal) - because my husband cooks 4 nights a week and I eat everything on my plate. Incidentally I am always hungry at bedtime as we eat early but still put on weight ( I might have a spoonful of natural yog at bedtime just to put something in my stomach!). I'm also not strict on holidays or Christmas or if we go out for meals - otherwise life becomes miserable - but than I will put on a few pounds - which then are harder to lose. Also important not to let yourself get so hungry that you tend to eat more because the signals to stop eating take longer? Lots of low GI foods? Fooling your body by swapping around when you have large and small meals?
If you come up with something that works I would love to know!!!
Sorry not to have any great ideas!!!
