When I used gel I didn't want to apply to upper body at all because I was paranoid about near breasts ( only because mine are generally lumpy and dense) so applied to inner thigh. That's just me though....Most transdermal HRT (patch and Sandrena gel)  is recommended to be applied somewhere on lower body - just Oestrogel that says upper body too.

The pain in your shoulder will have nothing to do with the gel sammiejane - that is not a side effect. Like Tinkerbell said - you probably slept funny. It's easy to get worried about niggles, pains and moods and try to blame everything on HRT or something. Best be hopeful that you're going to feel great and no problem with hair!!

Hi Sammiejane

Did you get this after just the first application? How long have you been taking the gel?

If one day then I imagine it will be something else. Keep an eye on it and if it carries on do tell your doc. Arm and neck pain is a side effect of the gel and if you get these you must tell doc immediately. X

hi jari

yes it was after first application and was in my left shoulder , it felt like trapped gas as it was the same feeling as after my hysterectomy although not as intense this morning day 4 i have awoke with it in my right shoulder i know it's the hrt as i have been off hrt prior for 9 weeks so i could establish what was doing what and i?m very in tune with my body i?m hoping in the next couple of days it will settle x
before i stopped hrt i was on estrogel only and applied to inner thighs but this gave me bloating of stomach headaches and felt as though my thighs had grew breast pain etc although this time round i?m applying to arms combined with progesterone .

day 4 i can already feel the aniexty brewing which i had before but new symtoms are flushes in the day which was controlled by 2 pumps of gel however since adding in progesterone utrogestan it's like i have more flushes which is a side effect of utrogestan . bloating of stomach isn't there yet but cramps yes like trapped wind x

i shall see how i go if no good i?ll stop again and sack off the gel and try something new

hi hurdity

i recommenced the gel and utrogestan 4 days ago the first couple of days were great apart from pain in shoulder applying gel to arms now however after day two i?m starting to get flushes in the day stomach cramps like trapped wind.

the flushes before when i was on the gel only was controlled on 2 pumps and no flushes in day as take at night x
sleep improved after first night is this likely to settle in time the flushes as my estrogen level rock bottom now so will need to build up plus side adding in progesterone no sore boobs not as bad headaches and not as bloated  x

the other thing i've noticed adding utrogestan i feel weaker in pelvic floor area is this because it relaxes things or am i just over thinking again x

thank you

Hi Sammiejane

If one day then I imagine it will be something else. Keep an eye on it and if it carries on do tell your doc. Arm and neck pain is a side effect of the gel and if you get these you must tell doc immediately. X

This is not a usual side effect as far as I understand. There are warnings on all HRT (and as with all drugs) that a doctor should be consulted in the case of various extreme symptoms. The side effects in any case would not be that local. Localised side effects are to do with skin irritation at the site of application.

Sammijane if you are adding progesterone at the same time you won't know what any side effects or positive effects are due to this time. If you want to try progesterone which you don't really need in terms of your body, but want to try perhaps because of its sedative effects eg as a sleeping aid, it would be better to settle on the gel first - and start low and slow and build up gradually until you reach a level that controls your flushes and then if you are wanting to try the progesterone introduce that very slowly.

Utrogestan always has an effect on my bladder - I use it vaginally but always makes me want to pee more and bladder more irritated.

As Sammiejane has made it clear that she didn't feel good on oestrogen only, and why she's trying the Utro, another option which my endo suggests for women on HRT is to take the progesterone on it's own and get settled with that before adding in the oestrogen.

Thought that made a lot of sense.

hi danger mouse

thanks for that info x

hurdity

i have already tried the estrogel on it's own for a year so i?m not new to it and i?m fully aware of the side effects i got so i've added progesterone to the gel as i can tell what side effects i get that are different will be from the utrogestan

i had a 9 weeks break as i had shedding of hair on the gel only and this stopped after 6 weeks so i know it's not low estrogen causing my hairloss and also due to the mood fluctuations on estrogen and aniexty i?m adding in progesterone it's to early to tell if it will help and if hair sheds again i?ll stop and will try something else .
