How to stop bleeding?
« on: February 02, 2020, 10:45:03 AM »

Hello ladies, I'm bumping up a query from two days ago as I'm feeling at the end of my tether.
----

I've posted a few times this week and it's all getting on top of me.

I'm on Oestrogel 2 pumps and utrogestan 100mg vaginally. I'm still bleeding, having done so off and on for 4 weeks. I previously had 3 good months on the sequential regime but did push a longer cycle and it seems to have gone haywire. The bleeding isn't much, some days hardly anything, but it's persistent. I'm also worried about using vaginal utrogestan when I'm bleeding. I know it may be less effective but also could it pose an infection risk?
I am at work again today.  My shoulders ache,  I am weary and headachey,  feel tearful and despondent. I can't get an appointment with my doctor until the 11th and then it's just a phone consultation. I just want the bleeding to stop and not feel so low and unwell. I've been on the utrogestan 8 days now. Should I stop it? Should I stop everything? Or should I stop utrogestan and cut down Oestrogel with a view to coming off slowly? I'm so down about this.

Sorry to ask so many questions this week.

Hi pricey - I thought I had already replied to you - I think I'm losing track of your posts and threads and where I've responded!

I doubt very much there is any risk of infection from using vaginal utrogestan whoile bleeding. Where are you imagining you might get infected? As long as your hands are clean when you insert it as with all vaginal products that should be fine on that score. The only thing is if you are bleeding heavily the flow may wash the prog/capsule out before it is absorbed but I  wouldn't have thought this would happen with spotting. I get your point though  - I have never used vag Utro when bleeding as my bleed has never come before I've finished the utro - but I am post-menopausal.

OK so how long have you been taking the oestrogen before starting this course of utro? If you are peri ( sorry can;t remember) then if your cycle kicks in this could cause bleeding at the "wrong" time.

In the medium term I would try to get settled on a 28 day or monthly cycle and hope the bleed becomes predictable. In the short term - depending how long you have been on oestrogen only before this course - well just do another couple of days (of the 12 day course) maybe which will take you to 4th Feb and then only a week to go before speaking to your doc? Just a suggestion.

So sorry you are down about this. Make sure you write everything down - when you take what and how (vag or oral), and the bleeds etc and other symptoms how you are feeling - so that you have it all ready for when s/he calls.

Stopping hRT completely doesn't seem like the way to go if you are having menopausal symptoms but finding the right regime is crucial!

Hang in there pricey and hopefully you will get sorted soon :)

Thanks, Hurdity.

I know I have been posting several questions. It's been a dreadful week on many levels and I'm struggling. I have one more utrogestan dose left to complete 12 days.  I will start the 28 cycle afresh and see how I go. I suppose I was just concerned using vaginal utrogestan when bleeding could pose a risk of infection. The fact absorption may be reduced is also an issue. I'm assuming I'm still peri as my cycle kicks in every few months,  but at 55 I think it's time I wasn't!  ;D

Thanks for your advice as always. X
