Symptoms of menopause?
« on: February 02, 2020, 09:45:42 AM »

Hi, I am new here and thanks for this amazing forum which has already helped me no end with reading all the posts.
I am 50 years old and experiencing signs of menopause in last year. The main one that is increasing and worrying is the terrible anxiety and dark days which is so abnormal for me as I have always been very positive and up beat and the type of person that just gets on but wow this is knocking me for six! I am also suffering intolerances to certain foods? Is this normal? For example I get very bad side effects to certain sugars and rich foods and have to be so wary of my diet now which is also completely alien to me and my system. The other really strange thing I am experiencing is pins and needles in my hands when i sleep? It has steadily got worse over the past year but it wakes me up and my whole hand is numb. It is in both hands and usually a week leading up to my period? Has anyone else experienced this?
I suppose I'm lucky as no hot flushes... yet?! Many thanks in advance :)

Hi there and welcome
That was me 18 months ago,I'm usually very upbeat and the life and soul of the party kinda person but I spiralled into doom and gloom,it was just awful, started with health anxiety then into depression, even sitting crying in the dr surgery, just not me,thankfully I came through, tried ADs but they just didn't agree with me,posting on here is a great help and you will find the women here are very sympathetic and understanding.
Sorry I can't help with the pins and needles but inflammation could be the cause?
Food intolerance, yep, there are a few of us on here that can now no longer tolerate certain foods.Wheat and nuts are my ones  >:(
Do have a good look at all the threads,we pretty much cover everything, nothing is taboo  :)

:welcomemm:  we discuss most things here.  Even menopause  ;)

Many ladies when pregnant suffer with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.  Pressure on the arm from the elbow to the fingers, do you have to hang your arms over the edge of the bed to get relief?  HORMONES  >:(  ::)

Some find that they can no longer tolerate alcohol  :o. at all  :-X.   Some develop food intolerances.  Maybe keep a mood/food/symptom diary to chart progress?  Also note what you eat 24/7 for 5 days and see if anything particularly upsets you.

As oestrogen levels drop the muscles may become lax = aches and pains.  Body may become dry: inside and out.  Read round. Make notes.

Hi BB77

 :welcomemm:

Sorry to hear about your worrying symptoms. What are your periods doing? Cycle length, flow, whether you've started skipping any etc?  This will give a sign of where you are in menopause.

re the numbness and pins and needles - I do get this from time to time but not every night. Are you more tired and/or sleeping more heavily and therefore sleeping in one position that could be causing this? I would suggest if nothing else has changed maybe have a word with your doc just to be on the safe side - if it is happening every night.

You will find lots of friendship, comfort and support here - and even HUMOUR from time to time  ::) !!!

Hi, I completely feel your pain.   I was like you until about 6 months ago, full of fun and loved life.   I know suffer from terrible anxiety which was triggered by an on going health issue,  that I still don't have the answers for, but 'that's another story !  I went to Dr as I actually thought I had depression,  was told I was in full menopause.   I am now 3 months into HRT,  I am still very very anxious but not in such a dark whole as I was at the time.  I also got prescribed anti depressant to help lighten my mood and help with the terrible insomnia.   I only make 1/2 the prescribed tablet when I get very anxious.

I never realised about alcohol. But that fits as the last 12 months if I even have a glass of wine I feel totally drunk!

If you have 30 minutes to spare this video with Dr Newson is very reassuring!

Thank you so much everyone for your kind words and supportive messages which really helped. Update... I have been on Sandrena gel and progesterone pill for 3 weeks now and already had amazing results! I feel like my old self again! I am so relieved and feel lucky that this is working already. Fingers crossed it lasts! I could do with some feedback on the progesterone.
Not sure I'm taking it right as supposed to take for 12 days and I've taken it now for 8 and my period has started? I need to look up threads on here to see if there is advice on it but thought I should bleed at end of 12 days?
