Hi ladies,
New day new problem, it started three days ago, looks like I have a pimple on my areola.
Seeing my doctor yesterday about virginal atrophy, ask about the pimple on my breast.
She said it's a blocked duct (periductal mastitis). From googling it common in premenopausal ladies age between 45-55 years old. And to leave it alone and it should go away, and to try a warm compress. I didn't even had this problem breastfeeding.

Has anyone had this? And how long does it take to go away? Any advice would be appreciated

Yes, i have had it twice, breast fed four babies and never had a bout of mastitis and then get it in the peri period.

My first bout made me feel awful with fever, had strong antibiotics but left a lump afterwards that meant a visit to breast clinic where i had to have a core biopsy, that fortunately just came back as just infection so needed several more weeks of antibiotics. The following year i got it again, no fever that time but it turned into a lovely breast abscess that needed 11 weeks of antibiotics to clear it, another visit to breast clinic where they aspirated some fluid out of lump, fortunately no problem since and that was 7 years ago.

I was told to do the warm compress and that was the time it turned to an abscess. If it gets bigger, area goes red or warm or you feel flu like you need to get GP appointment.

 no real change at the moment just keeping an eye on myself, which means looking at my boobs 20 times a day

I'm finding when I do the warm compress it hurts for about an hour after? If I leave it alone and do no warm compress it doesn't hurt? So unsure if I should keep doing them?
I wished I asked my doctor how long should it take to get better?  Any ideas Tinkerbell?

Just leave it alone. I ruined a holiday in Iceland by constantly touching and looking at it - it will only
make it more inflamed and take longer to go away. Honestly if you are worried book a GP
appointment for say 10 days time - then try and relax. The GPs see so many boob related things.
But like I say I became a total health anxiety nut over it - just because it was on my boob and I didn't breast
feed so didn't really have a reference for it. I do remember it took a while to go though but like you I did
keep poking it.

You could try ibuprofen.  That helps with mastitis.

Hi squeaker99,

Don't worry I'm definitely not touching it. Probably the only reason why is as my doctor was looking and giving it a squeeze herself, she told me ?not to do what she was doing and leave it alone?.

But looking to see if it looks different is another story, I keep flashing my boob at my husband why I'm having a look. But at the moment it doesn't look any worse. So I'm more concerned about my virginal atrophy flare up.
