B4 retirement DH kept a spread sheet

4 two years to see what we spent. Then he worked out what savings we have and the Financial Advisor agreed - so we have good savings, our Shares have done well over the last 15 years and at the time of retirement:
1 27 year old female friend with a baby of 3 months died from a brain tumour
A male friend dropped dead aged 36
A male friend of 65 got senile dementia
Another had a serious road accident and is paralysed from the neck down

So we went for it! I live half a day at a time and try not to look too far ahead. Mum has savings which she is using for her care home. Once her property sells we will invest that on her behalf ........ we have enough behind us for private surgery if push comes to shove. Otherwise we buy what we like as most of it is saleable.
