Can anybody recommend good Pro/pre biotics?
« on: November 26, 2019, 10:39:47 PM »

Hi, I'm just wondering if any of you can recommend any good pre and pro biotics, brands etc.

I know a lot of them are a waste of time so don't want to waste my money.

Thanks x

Hello Bobidy

I always recommend Sauerkraut as a good probiotic.  I make my own and which is very easy to do and cheap because all you need is some cabbage and salt.  It is available in some shops but it has to be the chilled version as that is the one containing live bacteria, the jars on the shelves have been pasteurised so all the bacteria have been destroyed. If you are interested there is plenty of information online including YouTube tutorials so worth a look.

Wishing you well.

Hi bobidy

When I had my colonoscopy, my consultant recommended bio-kult.

I use it sometimes, and it definitely helps.  :)

Does kefir irritate candida as it is fermented?

Hello again ladies.

I have often thought of trying kefir but the ones I've seen are made with milk and I avoid dairy. I think there are kefir products made with water or even coconut milk. Not sure really but I thought it worth a mention. You can also make your own kefir but as I like the taste of Sauerkraut I'm happy with that so far.

Take care all.

I've used probio 7 and probio 7 advanced month about for many many years.  When I was much younger used to suffer with thrush one and off but these really help and also make my stomach (a little bit) flatter.

Boots always have them and do the 3 for 2 on vitamins xx

Hi Bobidy, myself & OH have tried a few various probiotics over the years, have IBS & reflux. Obtibac are the ones we use, they have different strengths & different combinations of pre & pro biotics, it is very individual what works for one not necessarily works for another, myself & OH are on 2 different combinations & has consistently worked for us both. Lots more research going into the gut biome etc in relation to lots of health issues.

Have you tried natural yoghurt with fruit added?  Years ago I suffered with Candida, a friend told me to take Pro/Pre Biotics by tablet daily to help with this condition. Oh dear they caused so much bloating and abdominal discomfort I thought I was going to explode. Then I went to see a Health Food Specialist who said that they could sell me all sorts of things for a lot of money none of which would work effectively until my gut had been cleared of the Candida. The recommendation of the Health Food Specialist was to avoid foods containing yeast, foods containing a lot of sugar, take natural yoghurt daily with powdered cinnamon sprinkled on top and to eat as much fresh fruit as I liked. This was in addition to my usual diet so no foody fads of going vegan or vegetarian if you enjoy all kinds of food products. I followed their instructions and it took about six months before I began to feel the benefits. It was explained to me that Candida is like a long thread of cells which enjoys yeasty sugary environments and for the Candida to go the source of its food (sugary yeasty environment) needs to be reduced. This was at least ten years ago and I still follow my rules by avoiding foods with yeast and sugar. Occasionally I do allow myself  treat. Hope this helps someone.
