Painful legs
« on: November 17, 2019, 08:38:13 AM »

Hi

Has anyone else experienced really painful and heavy legs in meno? I used to walk for miles but now I find that even the 3 mile walk I did yesterday has been super painful both in terms in on the walk and then after and I get horribly stiff once I have stopped.  I've slept very badly with residual pain this morning.  Feels ridiculous as I used to be a regular hill walker, and 15 miles a day was fine.   Tried the usual ibuprofen etc.   HRT seems to make no difference - just started back on HRT but it's just as bad.  Had lots of blood tests, including thyroid, and all normal, CRP was just at the top of the scale.  Welcome any suggestions for treatment/supplements.  It's actually so bad I'm beginning to wonder if this is the start of ME or Fibromyalgia - but it's just my legs, so perhaps not.

Yes Nairncat, I've had it. I'm a walker too, at least 12000 steps a day and when my E was low, my legs were aching. Patches seemed worse for fluid retention in legs, no idea why. I found Epsom Salts baths really helped with aches, fluid retention and sleep but I think the overall problem was low E as I've increased a little recently and it's gone. Also changed to gel which has stopped fluid retention for me.

Thanks KiltedCupid

That's reassuring.  Can I ask where do you put the gel? Since I've started taking the gel/tablet regime I've got swollen ankles again and I wonder if I should put the 2 pumps onto my arms/shoulders rather than thighs? I'm retaining water all over - but especially on my legs -  it's quite noticeable, and I have ankle balloons and I think that's definitely not helping the legs .  I'm taking a 100mg P tablet a night as well with the 2 pumps of oestrogen

Hello, I have read this with a lot of interest. I do not have a problem with my legs but extremely with my feet. I don't know what to do . Especially when I get up I really have to „train“ my feet. They also feel as they burn and they really hurt. Any idea what it could be and what I could do to get a bit of a relief?

Best wishes

Nairncat - I use sandrena gel so it has to go below the waist. Oestrogel also made me bloat, no idea why one would and the other doesn't. EGel also made my eyes puffy which I don't get with S gel. I think because you've just restarted the gel it's probably because your E levels have risen quite quickly and utro can cause water retention too. It'll probably settled down when you're used to the dose.

ladylollipop - I've noticed more foot pain too but it's eased as my E level has increased. I think foot pain is common as we get older and I always forget my age and expect to be able to trot around like I did 30 years ago - nuh-uh! I wear trainers most of the day now as I'm on my feet almost all day and they help.

Achey legs are one of my worst problems too. I basically can't stand up and they feel so dead.  The only relief I get is from lying down. I had POF ten years ago and it was one of my worst symptoms then, fast forward to now and its still the thing that stops me having a decent quality of life because I just struggle to do anything. Like you, all tests come back normal.  I also find that days where they hurt worse, I feel very drowsy and am fighting sleep all day. Then come bedtime I can't drop off!

How long did U use and which HRT were you prescribed ?  When did U last see the GP/Nurse Practitioner and do they know that you have stopped?  Which symptom would you like to ease?
