Vagifem Growths
« on: November 16, 2019, 09:23:11 PM »

Hi, I new to posting on here, been reading for a while all your informative posts but sat in the background.

I've got a question for users of Vagifem. I have been using this for a couple of years on the usual 2 a week. My VA got worse a couple of months ago and menopause doctor suggested upping to three a week.

Short of it is that I have since noticed some stalagmite like growths at the entrance of my vagina, about half an inch big. Had a check up with gynaecologist for irregular bleeding and a lump inside (which strangely she said was the entrance of my cervix- not convinced as to one side and low down) anyway, she said the growths have formed because of the oestrogen from the Vagifem leaking out.

She said they are no problem and are all nice and pink, but they are a bit unsightly and I am worried that if they keep growing they will become a problem. Also she said I could stop the Vagifem if I was worried. Tried that for a week but my vaginal dryness and all VA symptoms have worsened since.

Why is it nothing goes right after menopause, really fed up at the moment  :'(

If your GP is not overly concerned I wouldn't stress about it.  Sucks that there isn't a proven remedy for VA and we all have to drift along hoping we get relief.

I agree, I think I may have to start using it again as the burning is just too much.

I may look to see if there is an alternative to Vagifem as it does give me serious stomach ache on the days I use it, any ideas anyone?

Hia Miche,

 :welcomemm:

Glad you posted about this. Sorry but I have a difference of opinion to Whatsupwiththis.

I'm of the school of thought that if you have a hunch that something is off with your body, most times you are right.
I don't like the sound of what you described one bit, and without trying to worry you I think you need to get a second opinion and best done with a specialist.

I've heard someone with endometrial issues describe their symptoms in exactly the same way you have(stalagmite).
Not saying it's this, obv I'm no expert, but better safe than sorry. Please get another check-up as soon as you can even if it's to just to eliminate any nasties.

See what others say too.

Thank you, I was thinking of getting a second opinion, do you think I need to go back to gp to ask for referral to another gynaecologist or contact lumps and bumps clinic direct?

I think I have also seen something somewhere about the stalagmite think which is why I was worried, but she just wasn't worried at all. Are you talking about endometrial cancer?

I had endometriosis issues a few times in past, asked if this was a problem when I read the leaflet in my HRT which said if you had endometriosis you shouldn't take it but the menopause doctor said there wasn't a problem.

Hi again Miche,

I'm not sure what the lumps bumps clinic is but glad you had already thought to get another opinion from an experienced professional.

I feel really awful in case I'm worrying you and it's nothing, but I'd rather worry you than have the alternative of something being missed.
Always always get a second 3rd opinion.

As I say I'm not an expert nor am I one of the more knowledgeable ppl here. I don't know where everyone is tonight, week days are when the site is buzzing more, hopefully tmrw some of the experienced gals will be able to help us.

Miche you mentioned being on hrt, can you add some details of what your taking and for how long?

Maybe add your stage peri or post meno, and any other symptoms you are having? Anything else to help flesh out the bones, so when the more experienced ones come on they have more info to help you with suggestions.

Miche041 - Intrarosa has just been brought to the market in the UK. I use it as I had irritation from vagifem. Intrarosa is a thin bullet shaped pessary made of coconut oil and contains DHEA as the active hormone. It's a small dose of DHEA but I find it more effective than vagifem. I've put the link to their website below but there's lots of other info available if you search the name. Hope that helps.

I have some of those just inside the entrance...when I had a transvaginal scan 3 years ago (way before I started on HRT) they said it was scar tissue at the posterior bridge (?) from an large episiotomy I had 35 years ago, and so could be more noticeable due to vaginal changes. Don't know if this is relevant to you? I haven't looked at mine lately, perhaps I should!!

I never look down there  :-\

I go by feel  ::)

Even if a GP suggests it is 'within normal limits' if these growths are annoying or getting in the way ....... I had a polyp which would bleed on contact which disappeared at Peri.  ::). My Gynae wanted to remove it ........ nope.

Could it be a Bartholo? cyst?  Do they remain the same size or shrink/enlarge?

Keep up the Vagifem as I don't believe that, unless it's a reaction the fillers, that the vagina would react such.  Maybe get your Practice Nurse to have a look-see ........

Hi everyone, thank you all for your responses.

I have been on HRT for 2 1/2 years now, had debilitating menopause symptoms, the usual hot flushes, night sweats, insomnia, brain fog, no energy, bladder issues, vaginal dryness, no energy and just generally felt life wasn't worth living.

Saw Louise Newson and have been seeing her every year since, now on estradiol gel 3 pumps a day applied two in morning and one at night to outside of upper legs. Also have 100 mg utrogestan daily which I take before bed as it helps me have a lovely sleep. I also use androfeme 0.5 mg a day at night to outer thigh. Was on testim until June when they changed the packaging a Louise changed it to androfeme.

I have need using Vagifem for the 2. 1/2 years and although I did have a brief couple of months off because it gave me pain in my stomach and irritated my bladder I went back on it because it was worth the pain for the relief from dryness, itching and infections, although I still get some UTIs and have to be so careful with soaps, wash after sex with vagisil or I will definitely have an issue the next day.

I did increase from 2 a week to 3 a week about two months ago because my vaginal problems were getting worse. But then had a few bouts of spotting since and found the lump in my vagina that gynaecologist says is my cervix, but it is low down and I have never felt it before.

And for good measure I had a brain haemorrhage 18 month ago, fully recovered and would love to just get on enjoying my life, bloody menopause. Oh I haven't had a period since sept 2018 and before that was October 2017.

Hope that's enough info for you xxx😩

How are they now?  Inside my vagina it feels bumpy sometimes but I am told that's 'normal'  ::).  It's like goosebumps in there  ::)

Miche you having a brain haemorrhage is harrowing, so glad you have recovered, it must have been a dreadfully frightening experience.

So a gynae at LN clinic says it's all normal?
Obv we know LN is at the top of her game, but we are all human and therefore all fallible, I'd still say get 2nd opinion. Have you been able to arrange that yet?
