Hi any and all advice welcome and appreciated.
Does having any virus /infection affect or increase the menopause sweats.
Had a total hysterectomy 8weeks ago so straight into sweats!!! Have struggled with virus, chest and ear infection for two weeks now and the sweats are bad I'm wondering if being ill is impacting on the amount of sweats I'm having?

Hia!

Not a scientific answer here but I notice a difference between my menopause hot flushes(pre hrt)and from my recent cold virus sweats .
The hot flushes are more intense and last for me around 2 minutes, which doesn't give my brain enough time to trigger any actual sweating.

Whereas the virus which I'm just over lasted 2 weeks I had a fever come over me in bed for a couple of nights that caused my whole body to sweat.
I was literally drenched and had to get up and change my pyjamas.

Don't know if that any help lol!

I hope you are recovering well from the hysterectomy but sorry to hear about your infections. Total hysterectomy is the removal of uterus and cervix but leaving ovaries. If your ovaries were removed then that's known as hysterectomy plus oophorectomy.

Illness won't increase or decrease the amount of menopausal hot sweats. Your body has been plunged into full menopause and is reacting to the sudden loss of oestrogen. As has been mentioned what help are you having with this in replacing the missing hormone?

Thanks for the advice.
I'm discharged from the hospital now, the consultant has recommended to my GP antidepressants as I can't take HRT, I'm taking starflower at the moment high dosage to kick start my system other than that nothing else, don't really want to start AD but if starflower doesn't help will prob them.

Why no HRT?

When I had 'tamoxifen' I had cold flushes from back of my neck down my back to the waist.  Made me feel really ill - that was after 2 tablets!

Some Antidepressant medications can help with hot flushes.  What's to lose?  Starflower oil is unlikely to help whereas ADs have been found to ease symptoms.

When do you return to see the Consultant for a review?  You could have caught a 'bug' in the Hospital so best query what it actually might be!  Many bugs mimic 'flu-like symptoms so it shouldn't be brushed away.  MRSA should be considered.

Blood pressure medication is often used to combat hot flushes. Two of my friends have had good success with one of them called Dixarit or Clonidine.

........... could you go to a Menopause Clinic for advice?  Have a look-see at your area initially then spread the distances and see what pops up?

Could you say what your blood condition is? only asking  as I have haemochromatosis, and some women with it have been told they shouldn't have HRT but that is rubbish, and it's fine, my Dr and consultant are fine with it
If you have been refused ,make more enquiries and see another DR I think
