Hi all,

I'm looking for some advice from someone who has had the same problem.

I have to get up between 3 - 8 times a night to pee (yes, can be 8 times!).  I've had a bladder ultrasound and no problems were found.  Have also had several checks for UTI's and they are always negative.  At one point I tried Vagifem but sadly it made no difference (and I was using it every second day).

I don't know if it's a pelvic floor thing and I need to do Kegel exercises or if it is VA and I need to try some local HRT.  Problem with Kegels is that if your pelvic floor is too tight exercises can make it worse so that makes me nervous about trying them.

Has anyone had this problem and been able to fix it?  What did you find helped?  Have been living with it for ages.

Hi, I've just posted a similar question. I have insomnia and need to get up between 2 and 5 times a night. It's not just a feeling that you can sleep through, but a real need. I'm 51 and have been treated for bladder irritation in the past but this feels different. I'm ok during the day and my night time need isn't linked to the amount I drink. I've made a go appointment as I've now got severe itching which adds to the fun.
I've not much to offer apart from my sympathy and interest in sharing how we deal with the problem x

Make sure that you drink plenty in the day as the kidneys will work over-time at night otherwise.

Maybe see a physio who knows about pelvic floor and vaginal issues?

Artmouse, sounds like a VA symptom to me. If there are no other urinary issues I would go back on the Vagifem. How long did you use it for? It can take a few months to make a difference and you'd have nothing to lose.

I don't know if there would be a pelvic floor issue with this problem but a Women's Health Physio might have some ideas (one who doesn't think kegels are the answer to everything!).

I used Vagifem for 3 months and was also on HRT for 2.5 years (came off it one week ago today!)  Maybe there is another local hrt product that would work better for me?  I'm OK at drinking water throughout the day.

Think I will speak to my GP about this and seeing a Women's Health Physio. 

Tindia - I will post on here if I find anything that helps.  I also have the itching but mostly just in the evening which is a bit weird.  Have been living with this and the insomnia for a long time, my sympathies to you too, it's rubbish!  Also have chronic lower back pain, wonder if it's related, do you have this as well?

Decided to give Vagifem another go, ordered it online and they've approved it which is a relief.  Have also bought some VMagic moisturiser (love the name!) and some E45 shower wash.  Also managed to get a GP's appointment in 3 weeks time so I'm thinking today has been a good day!

What a nuisance it must be to get up so many times during the night. Good advice already on here especially getting referred to s pelvic health specialist. Have you had a look at our sister site Bladder Matters? There might be some advice there.

Didn't know there was a sister site - brilliant, will have a look.

I feel like my life would really improve if I could sort this problem.  Have managed to actually improve my sleep overall by using CBD oil - the only thing I've ever used that has made a difference.

Vagifem has helped me. Started it to prevent UTI's  but got the benefit of reduced night loo visits as an unexpected  by product.

It is definitely worth having a day of drinking plenty water during daytime, to give the bladder a stretch and make it less over-sensitive.

The Enuresis Nurse at the clinic where I took my daughter who had problems getting dry at night said to try this and I have tried it myself, and friends too!  It definitely helps, but if you are waking a lot in the night anyway, you will be making more urine as the hormone which concentrates it overnight is not active if you are not asleep.

In general, drink plenty clear/light coloured fluids throughout the day, and keep tea and coffee to a minimum.

I'm not too bad at drinking water but will try and drink more.  Have just gone back on the Vagifem so hope it works this time!
