Horrendous Day/Night Flushing - Best HRT recommedations
« on: August 27, 2019, 06:42:35 PM »

Hi ladies, well thought I was coping but been under a huge amount of work related stress and the flushing even on 20mg of Prozac is unbearable, nearly have to shower about 3 times a day, dripping wet. Not great all as trying to hold down a job and support my family financially. Reluctantly going to go tommorrow as can't cope and although nothing hormonal in the past agreed with me, I must try something else. I have just turned 50, no periods for 12 months but flushing has got worse, not sure if job etc as that is so stressful. Take some good vitamins etc but would welcome some advise about HRT patches for starting out as some GPs are not that informed. Many thanks.

Hi Lady Daviot - all the info about HRT preparations can be found under Treatments above. Unfortunately there is a shortage of the only combi patch available at the moment - Evorel conti - but you could try any oestrogen patch ( that you can get!) together with a separate progestogen - which would be Provera tablets, Utrogestan (orally or off-lceince vaginally), or Mirena coil. Ideally to start with if you can bear to go back to a cycle then take the oestrogen for 16 days and add the progestogen in for 12 days per cycle - that way you will see how you feel on the oestrogen alone as it is the progestogen that usually causes the problems if there are going to be any. Otherwise you could try oestrogen gel. Let us know what you decide and good luck!
