40 and going through pre menopause
« on: August 24, 2019, 12:29:43 PM »

Hi,
I'm new to this site and dnt know really where to begin  :-\ In April after my 3rd c section i had sterilisation as its too dangerous to have any more babies..and i am happy and blessed with 3 boys! However around 2 months ago i started feeling weird and read up on my symptoms...sure but true I've started to get premenopausal symptoms. 1st major hot sweats (very unusual as I'm always cold) then joint aches all over, loss of libido and dryness :P Then I've noticed my weight gain (1lbs a day)  :'( and nowmajor migraines!! I dnt wnt to take hrt but what else can i take?? Any advice and info would be grateful  :'(

40 is early.  Do read the daisy web-site too.  You really do need bone and heart protection and HRT can help.  Hormone 'replacement' therapy - keeping hormones going that the body should make naturally.

HRT doesn't have to be taken for ever.  A good diet, good exercise - you'll get plenty of that with boys ;-) - lots of 'me' time - even with boys ;-) ....... decide which symptom you would like to ease and put it into the search box: see what pops up, take notes.

Some find keeping a mood/symptom/food diary helpful.  What help do you have with your sons?  Are you able to delegate?

Do read the threads on bladder issues and vaginal atrophy!  Localised treatments really do help.

Hi Melism, Welcome to the forum, sorry to hear your going through all this especially after having a new baba (congratulations!). I'm 41yr have had 3+ years of symptoms insomina, hot flushes/sweats, I could go on and on. Anyway after lots of investigations for rare/unusual things (meno discounted by professionals due to my age!!! >:( and normal blood results) this year diagnosed as peri menopausal. I have read up alot about it on this forum/website and others, rockmymenopause is also a good one (it has a symptom diary you can print off) helpful for yourself but also professionals. As of January I decided to reevaluate my lifestyle (overweight+), I had read that 75% of symptoms could be reduced by weight loss so I'm 2.5+ stone lighter (feeling much better but I couldn't say one individual thing made the difference, although HRT has made the biggest improvement for me & as CLKD says its a 'no brainer' or it was for me anyway re protecting your long term health when you are younger bone health & heart health). You could also look into any supplements you may feel would be beneficial but bare in mind whether you have any other medical conditions, take any medications or if you are breast feeding baby research it thoroughly. Lots of great advice on here from experienced/supportive ladies, make use of it, you can put a word in the search box & threads will come up in relation to specific topics. Have a look on your GP website if there is a GP who has a special interest in menopause or womens health, not guaranteed but more likely to get sense out of them. Also locally there may be a menopause group/clinic you could be referred to or self refer. I had one locally which was an amazing help. All the best & keep us up to date with how you are getting on. x

Thank you so much everyone for you advice and responses!! Its quite scary going through this and not having any idea of what is what!!! As you can imagine having 3 little ones and going through this is not ideal and a handful!! I'm hoping once my eldest starts nursery in a few weeks it will ease a bit as less stress at home and plenty of exercise for me as i will be walking up and dwn a hill to get to his nursery!!  :-\ I will definitely read up more on this as i really dnt wnt to take hrt!!  :'(

Why not?  It's replacing what your body should be making.  Protecting heart and bones is important.  Read the daisy web-site and make notes ;-).

As you are in your early 40's it is recommended you take HRT not only to help the symptoms but also to guard against osteoporosis in later life. I had a total hysterectomy when I was 44, I wouldn't be without HRT!

:o. where in the World do you live  :o  ???

Some ladies don't need HRT.  Others do.  Simples.  It can take a while to find a treatment that eases symptoms so I would check what you would like to ease then have a discussion with the GP.  You are EARLY and need bone protection.  Your Doctor should arrange a bone scan to see if your bones are actually deteriorating.  Unless there is a fracture you won't know!!

There's a new book by Dr Louise Newson Menopause manual. I ordered from publisher Haynes the other day (waiting on it arriving), much cheaper than Amazon & no postage. Dr Newson has a good website also Melism which you might find useful. x

AAAHH  ;D - it was the 'little monkeys' statement that confused me  ::) I had visions of marmosets .......

How has today been?

As oestrogen levels drop off muscles may become lax = aches and pains.  Over the counter pain relief might help.

Mouth ulcers are certainly a way of telling us that the body is off kilter.  It could be a low mineral i.e. zinc?  Have a chat with a Pharmacist, I find 'bonjela' works well.

You may be aching due to low oestrogen so take some pain relief regularly.  If it works you have your answer.  For now  ::)

Oh my bleeds came and went: I would have to get pen and paper to work it out.  My last period was Feb. 2002 ......... after them waxing and waning for years .......... probably about 4/5.

Get some 'bonjela' or similar tomorrow!  Use often.
