Evorel Conti with Naproxen
« on: August 18, 2019, 05:30:35 PM »

I've just completed three months using Evorel Conti patches and am noticing some of my pre hrt ( been on hrt almost five years) symptoms returning. I presumed it was my body not absorbing this new patch as well as my previous one, but a thought just struck me today.
I've been taking Naproxen 500mg twice a day for the last week or so and I wondered whether that could be reducing the efficacy of the  patch. I've googled, but all I've found is that anti inflammatories negate the heart protecting qualities of estrogen . I haven't read anything that mentions reducing the potency of a conti patch.
So, I'm just wondering on the off chance, if any other ladies have found Naproxen interfering with their hrt? I'm probably  barking up the wrong tree here but I'm curious🤔

Hi linz57   I noticed that you hadn't had any responses yet so thought I'd just suggest something. This is just an educated guess. I do know that Patches are just absorbed into the blood stream and not processed in the liver as tablets are. That is partly why I am on patches because I also take Tegretol (epilepsy medication) which is processed in the liver and could interact with the HRT.
I suspect that Naproxen is also processed in the liver and shouldn't affect the patches.

Yes I see what you mean Katejo, hmmm, it looks more  likely that I'm just not absorbing the hormones from the Evorel patches then. Maybe I'll have to add another quarter of a patch and see if that helps any, I've been loathe to do that as it would mean using up my store more quickly than usual.
Thanks for your input, I must admit I hadn't really thought it through properly initially☺️

I can't answer the question either but perhaps your own body is producing less oestrogen so you need a higher dose? Did the symptoms coincide exactly or were they creeping in before?

Hi sheila99, good point! I did have the occasional blip before going onto Evorel Conti, but on the whole I was fine. Now I'm feeling the odd flush creeping back in so I'm presuming it's this patch . I'll try adding a little more and if it helps I'll stick with it. I'm 62 and wary of upping my dose, but then again if I'm not absorbing this patch well I'm probably not really getting the dose I was previously.🤔
