Low testosterone in perimenopause
« on: August 14, 2019, 07:50:58 PM »

I am perimenopausal aged 49. Using Evorel 50 patches. Recently had blood test because of on going tiredness. Everything normal except (very) low testosterone. Having read posts it seems I am lucky that I have been tested for this. However.... they won't prescribe anything for me so bit of a waste of time!😂. Have been told by gp that if I can get a specialist to advise in writing I need testosterone they may prescribe, on the other hand she said they may not! After doing some reading my understanding is that it won't be prescribed until I am post menopausal. Does anyone have any knowledge they can share? Many thanks.

Ask for a referral to a menopause clinic. Because there isn't a product licensed for women it has to be prescribed by a specialist. Tell them you have low libido as this seems to be the only thing they will prescribe it for. I am peri and have been prescribed it by NHS specialist. Currently in 'discussion' with gp for ongoing prescription - they think I should waste resources going back to the consultant every time - big yellow stripe where backbone should be...
