Once again I'm told to take a break from Ovestin cream
« on: August 09, 2019, 02:31:06 PM »

About a year ago I was told a male senior partner at our GPs practice had seen my Ovestin repeat prescription request and said I needed a break. I went to my female GP armed with NICE guidelines and she without question gave me the cream. I've just had a phone call to say that I've been on it a long time and I should see how I do without it! When I asked who had said this I was told it was the other female GP who job shares with my named GP who normally is very good. Luckily I have a tube in reserve. I have been lucky in the fact I probably only have to use it say 3 times a fortnight so I am tailoring to my needs so to speak.
I have to wait until 3/9, but will manage. I am wondering if this is due to reviewing of prescriptions at our practice with the appointment of a clinical pharmacist and also the new regulations for repeat prescriptions starting in September. I'm all for cutting down wastage with unnecessary repeats but if this has been the reason here then they've gone to far!
Has anyone else had any problems recently Flutterbyx

It's because GPs have NO IDEA!

Don't wait.  Make the appt. next week and ask why they are refusing you Life Saving medication.  Or send an e-mail to Dr Currie privately and ask for her advice to take to your Surgery.  Or visit the Pharmacist there and see if he/she is up to date!  DO NOT wait.

Is your use regular enough?

which are the new regulations regarding repeat prescriptions please?  You certainly need to continue with the Ovestin if it is working for you.

Hi CKLD I have no problems with one less application a fortnight. I'm pretty sure I will be able to get it when I chat with her. If it was up for review why not ask me to go in before not issuing me the prescription. I've got a few health things going on at the moment so an appointment on the 3rd works as I will have enough cream to last until mid September. It has to be what they consider a real emergency to get an earlier appointment.
Hi Katejo patients soon won't be able to order medicines on your behalf. A repeat prescription my st be done through the GP. To be truthful I didn't know you could do this anyway

I didn't know this was ever possible  either. I have always had to request my own prescriptions from the GP. Or does it mean that a pharmacy branch like Boots won't be able to order for me?

Sorry folks just read the covering letter, they are just stopping repeat prescriptions from pharmacies in our area (County Durham and Tees Valley CCG). Local pharmacy no longer being allowed to order repeat medication for patients
Unless you're in this area Birdy you will be ok
