Sorry. Yes. Just wondering if with the pessaries  being made specifically for vaginal use whether one would absorb more than using 2 x 100 oral pills vaginally.

Crikey I'm confusing myself.  :)

Hi Tc, thanks for the info 're. the Chelsea and Westminster menopause clinic site.

If you look at Hurdity's post further up this thread it does seem as if it's okay to take only 100mgs Utrogestan sequentially if you take it vaginally.

Maybe check that with her in relation to the level of oestrogen you're taking?

Take care,
Erinne xx

Hi again Erinne - The licensed dose of utrogestan is 200 mg x 12 days orally but as I said this is given as standard so with higher doses of oestrogen more maybe needed. Also when used vaginally there is limited research to show that more is absorbed in this way and therefore less is needed - approximately half the oral dose for a given dose of oestrogen. However we are all individual so be guided by your GP/meno specialist on this as to what is best for you - you rbleeding amounts and frequency will be a guide, but regular scans are the way to go if you vary from the licesned regime long term.

Tc - utrogestan 100 mg and 200 mg are designed for oral and vaginal. It's only in the UK (and maybe elsewhere) that they are packaged separately. The French medicines database says something like "soft capsules for oral or vaginal use" for both 100 mg and 200 mg. They are used for fertility and HRT. Heaven knows why we have to have a different system which causes such confusion! Intuitively Iwould think maybe you get more Utrogestan quicker from the 200 mg due to smaller surface area of capsukes to dissovle but not sure it would make any difference in the long run.

Hiya hurdity. Hope you are well.
Thanks for that  yes it was my thinking that being a gel cap  more of the drug might be absorbed.

My problem is with keeping the pills in. Bit embarassing realy but they fall out. I have to go to loo at least once in the night and when I stand they fall out whole. It doesnt help.that I start bleeding on day 8.  Making things even more slippery

I cant face another cycle orally. The constant headache and migraines are not bearable.

It's a bit worrying realy as my gynae didn't want me to take the HRT pill due to family history of aneurysm (and the fact I'm . Overweight.)  But from reading up I see oral progesterone also has an increased risk of thrombosis   What I'm not sure of is whether that's just in higher doses like the contraceptive pill or whether that applies to the levels we take in HRT  as well.

So the migraines are a big concern.

If I cant  find a solution to the vaginal delivery issue i dont have many options. I'm  supposed to be having the eastrogen implant so  as there is no progesterone only patch, my choice is limited. Provera would obvs cause the same issues.i assume so  I'm left with athe mirena.

Thanks for the answer. Xxx
