Sandrena gel
« on: July 27, 2019, 10:14:44 AM »

I'm on 2 x 1 mg Sandrena gel with provera 25mg, is it possible to use  a 3rd sachet or is 2mg the maximum, I know with the pump gel you can use more but not sure with the sandrena.

Hi Sjays...welcome..
The only thing to be concerned about is the balance between the oestrogen and the prog, as it may not be enough to give protection...I don't know much about Provera, but hopefully someone else will know more, but what I'd do is increase slowly, as another full sachet might be too much, as I remember, Sandrena gel is quite strong. I actually loved it...but I've settled on Femoston Conti now....if the two sachets aren't enough, just use a tiny bit first of the third one, then work up after a while if you still feel like you need more...sorry I can't be anymore helpful, maybe someone else will post soon...
Keep us informed, good luck...xxxxx

I'm taking 1.5 sandrena and 200mg utogestan daily. I guess you could increase slowly if needed and see what happens? Do you find it good stuff? I've just started using it.

Thanks guys, I'll try a bit more from the third sachet, I'm still tweaking the gel atm, I've been using it for 5weeks now and still getting flushes quite bad, I'm still trying to work out what else the gel is supposed to help with too, I'm also taking provera at night.

Sjays,
Are you peri or post meno?  From what I understand with Sandrena the normal dose is 0.5-1.5mg.  I'm post and on 1mg daily with Utrogestan 100mg vaginally on alternate days and getting zero flushes..  How/when are you applying it?  Application is advised in the morning on alternate thighs and you need to squirt it onto the thigh and spread it into an area about the size of your hand.  You won't be able to 'rub it in' as such. You also shouldn't apply clothing for a while -  I leave it at least 20mins and even after that it's still sticky.  Oh and the application site must be clean & dry - no body lotion etc.

If you're doing all the above and on 2mg daily I'd be concerned re poor/reduced absorption.

Sandrena should be rubbed in, not left to air dry, the same as Oestrogel, as it helps absorption.
There has been a lot of confusion and misinformation about rubbing in estradiol gels, e.g. a friend of mine was told by a gynaecologist not to rub in Oestrogel.
But menopause specialists such as Renee Hoenderkamp and Louise Newson and her team all say to rub in whichever gel is being used as it helps absorption.

Erinne,
The patient Information Leaflet says:

How to apply the gel

Sandrena should be rubbed gently on dry and clean skin........

Where to apply the gel

Do not apply the gel to your breasts, face or on irritated skin.
Apply the gel to your lower body or thighs.
Apply the gel to a different side of your body each day.
Follow these instructions:

1. Apply the gel once a day to the skin on your lower body or thighs.
2. Spread the gel over an area 1–2 times the size of your hand.
3. Allow the gel to dry for a few minutes.
4. Wash your hands after applying the gel. Avoid contact of the gel with your eyes. The gel may irritate your eyes.
5. Do not wash the area where you have applied the gel for at least one hour.

There is nothing to say it needs to be rubbed in, just spread over an area 1-2 times the size of your hand.  This is what I'm doing and I'm getting very good control of symptoms on 1mg/day (I'm post meno).

I apply it to alternate thighs then sort my hair/make up out before I get dressed. It seems that regardless of how long you leave it to dry it remains sticky for quite a while, which I don't find to be a major problem as it doesn't seem to effect how well it works.
