Everol sequi not working for me!
« on: July 14, 2019, 06:43:01 AM »

I am 52 peri menopausal and have been taking everol sequi for three months now, I have not noticed any difference in my symptoms since taking it apart from controlling hot sweats, the tiredness; fatigue, forgetfulness are still there, not sure whether to increase the dose or try a different patch, I have got my review next week with doctor and was thinking of asking for a referral to the menopause clinic in Birmingham? Any advice would be grateful x

Hi jools1x, I am 41yr peri and started with everol sequi, after my 3 month review and telling the GP still suffering following discussion with local menopause specialist I was advised to change to Everol 75mcg patches & Provera 5mg (daily). I have been on this new regime for a month, the last two weeks I have slept (3yrs not sleeping), generally feel back to my old self. Energy levels high (sleep helps I'm sure), mentally feeling sharper and the sweats/hot flushes greatly reduced (my sweats lessened with AD though initially). Hope yourself and GP come to a mutually acceptable decision and one that works for you. In relation to the menopause clinic, I have not attended one although we had a local menopause group which ran over 6 weeks & covered all the bases, menopause specialist spoke at it, dietician, alternative therapies, women's physio etc. It was really worthwhile & I would recommend it if there is anything similar locally to you. Let us know how you get on. x

Thankyou for your reply that is very helpful, I will mention the everol and provera when I visit my doctor, I had such high hopes when I started taking hrt but can honestly say I cannot see any improvement at all and in fact my hot flushes have gradually started to reappear ☹️ My energy levels are very low and feel exhausted all the time even after a decent night sleep, xx

I would say from that jools1x your unlikely to be on the right regime for you, I know it was very disheartening for my as I had such high hopes when I first started HRT & was then questioning myself whether my expectations were too high, thankfully not. You will get there its trial and error unfortunatley. Have you looked at your general lifestyle, diet etc to see if you could tweek anything which might help? x

Well I have my 20 month old grandson on my two days off work and work four days a week standing all day so that contributes to the tiredness  it still expected to see some if even slight improvement, I was taking menopace herbal supplements for 12 months prior to hrt which got rid of the hot sweats completely but did not help with the other symptoms hence my decision to try hrt, I do need to try and cut down on the chocolate and biscuits 😩😩 but have an otherwise healthy diet, I am due to see docs on 23rd so will let you know how I get on, thanks again xx

Sweet stuff my nemesis also. I've cut right back to once a week having a sweet treat, being doing Fast 5:2 diet since Jan lost 2 stone, still motivated to keep going. Started it to try and ease symptoms and for general health & wellbeing. Jools1x yes, please let me know how you get on. x

I feel the energy has significantly improved over the last week since sleeping better the last 2 weeks, probably a combination of factors!!

I have attended the Birmingham menopause clinic and have found them very helpful. Only problem is the long wait for appointments. I went for a review in March and had a follow up appointment in September, which has now been put back to January. They are really busy.

Jools1 it sounds like you are not on a high enough dose of oestrogen for you. The problem I found with Everol was that there was only one dose of Sequi patch. Once you separate out the estrogen from the progesterone element you can get a higher level of oestrogen. But it does mean two prescriptions and faff. For me I found patches best so far for absorption but others swear by the gel, but in either case you need to move from a single patch if you want to adjust the level of oestrogen (and stay on transdermal not tablets). But my specialist Menopause GP did initially move me onto a 50 + a Sequi patch so the pattern went, 75 msg oestrogen only (2 patches at a time changed 2 x a week) for two weeks, then 50 Sequi patch which included the progesterone 2 x a week for 2 weeks. Complicated but it worked for me for a while....It literally hadn't occurred to me that you might combine the oestrogen only and the sequi prescriptions so I mention it for those who might find it helpful and prefer patches.

Thank you Katy for your advice I will show the thread to my doctor on Tuesday and see if he thinks this would be suitable for me, I think a referral to the menopause clinic is out of the question if the waiting list is over six months so I would certainly be willing to give this a go; I will let you know how I get on xx

Went to doctors today and he read your post Katy but was still unsure about what would be best so he didn't want to try me on anything else in case there were side affects so he recommended that he refer me to the menopause clinic at Birmingham women's hospital and let them decide, I believe there a few months wait though so will just persevere with the everol sequi until then, Thankyou for your advice ladies xx

That's good Jools1x, although it is frustrating having to wait so long, but hopefully worth it in the end.

Although I said I'm having to wait ages for a routine follow up appointment at Birmingham, when I was initially referred the wait wasn't too bad at all, about 8 weeks if I remember rightly. Good luck Jools, they are helpful there.
