Utrogestan side effects- help please
« on: June 25, 2019, 07:25:22 AM »

Hi

Sorry me again. I have been on Evorel 50 patches for 5 weeks and was taking Utrogestan 100 every night vaginally. I took it for 25 days and then stopped as I was feeling dizzy, nauseous and anxious. I stayed off it a week and after seeing my doctor yesterday, she said to try taking it again last night.

This morning I woke up sweating (although it is really hot), shaking, nauseous and have a slight headache and diarrhoea (sorry tmi). Is this normal and should I persevere? I've got to drive to work shortly and feel quite shaky so am going to wait a bit

I'm 55 and 3 years post menopause. I would really appreciate advice as I'm at my wits end😢. Thanks x

Utrogestan seems to be responsible for a lot of the problems on here; I've come across very few women who just get on with it without any problems. 100mg everyday vaginally is quite a high dose for Evorel 50; you might be better off trying a sequential dose rather than continuous - being post menopause in itself doesn't rule that out.I think the min licensed dose is 100mg for 100 days a month, but please someone put me right if necessary.

Hi Jules

Hope you are feeling better.

Could be coincidence, but I've been on utrogestan (orally) for a year, and my bowels never seem quite right anymore

Hope you are feeling better

Jeepers xx

hi Jules sorry to hear you are still struggling.  I know how hard it is.  It's probably a good idea to come off the hrt and the anti depressants and then you'll be able to see what symptoms are menopause symptoms and what symptoms are hrt side effects .  See how you go and in a few weeks see how things are.  I found it very useful to keep a daily diary of symptoms so I could look back and see what as improving and what was not.  If you decide to go back on the medications, introduce one thing at a time and then you'll be able to work out what is suiting you.  My specialist told me to give the hrt a good 3 months before introducing anti depressants as other wise I wouldn't know which one was working.   3 months later I didn't need to start anti depressants and I proved what I'd known all along that my symptoms were due to low oestrogen.

Keep us informed.  There's always someone here to help xx

I've put on a huge amount of weight - tummy but deep under the skin or not wobbling - with utrogeston. I was given it by a private consultant to replace the Conti aspect of Evorel Segui so I take E 50 or 75 every few days, then U days 1/12 of each month. I never got a straight answer as to why U is preferable to EC - does anyone know? Thank you
