HRT advice - please help!
« on: June 23, 2019, 08:23:02 AM »

Hi

I started Evorel 50 Oestrogen patches and Utrogestan 100 5 weeks ago and have felt worse and worse over time. I thought it was the Utrogestan making me feel dizzy and like I was going to black out so stopped it after 25 days. I have been on Oestrogen only since then and still feel awful - sweaty, shaking, anxiety and feel generally awful.

Is it OK to just stop after 5 weeks or should I persevere? Going back to the doctor next week but feel desperate today.

Thanks x

Yes, you can just stop - although in your place I'd be temped to simply use one pump of gel per day(if that is what you are using for oestrogen)  until you see the GP and then ask the GP for a different progesterone e.g. Provera to use in a sequential regime.    HRT doesn't suit everyone and Utrogestan can be difficult for some women giving more side effects than benefits.  Taking Utrogestan continuously can be particularly difficult and many women use it sequential and also vaginally to reduce side effects.  I suspect you are still struggling with the Utrogestan withdrawal side effects.
It's not a good idea to start with a continuous HRT regime anyway and if you are post menopause and starting HRT from a low oestrogen base line then it can take some time for the body to adjust.

If you should want try HRT again, I would suggest you try starting off with Oestrogel alone for 4-6 weeks and build the dose with one pump per day for 4 weeks and only increase if sweats etc don't improve.  As Utrogestan didn't suit you perhaps try Provera for 10-12 days each month - this will result in a withdrawal bleed but this can often be better than using progesterone daily.  Using any progesterone constantly can be more problematic than sticking with the sequential regime, even into post menopause, as it can easier tolerate this way.

Why are you trying HRT? What symptoms are you wanting to control? DG x

Thanks DG.  I'm not on Oestrogel as that made me itch when I tried it before. I'm on Evorel 50 patches. I'm extremely sensitive to any med I take as well.

I'm on it mainly for anxiety but am also on 10mg of Fluoxetine for that. I do have night sweats, even on the HRT. Really not sure what to do. I feel so tense and my chest feels really tight (anxiety). How long does progesterone withdrawals last please? I have been off it 4 days.

Thanks for your reply x

Hi Jules yes you can just stop , but if you do that then you will need to start again from scratch if you go back on hrt to build up your oestrogen stores.

Those symptoms sound to me like low oestrogen .

I agree with Dancing Girl that it would be a good idea to be on Oestrogen only for a good few weeks before you add in the progesterone. Then you'll know what is causing  the problems.

You stopped hrt a few weeks ago..... how did you feel when you were taking nothing at all?

Sending you a hug 🤗 xx

Thanks Dotty. I've taken the patch off now and will see how it goes. I can't remember how I felt when I stopped it a few weeks ago.

How long will it take for the Oestrogen and progesterone to get out of my system please? I feel so rough🤮. Thanks for your reply xx

I don't know how long it will take. It shouldn't be long. If you still feel rough in a few days then it's likely to be the lack of oestrogen that's causing your problems. X
