Is this progesterone intolerance?
« on: June 18, 2019, 12:30:40 PM »

Hi ladies

I am still having problems since starting HRT nearly a month ago. I have a feeling it is the Utrogestan. I have been using Utrogestan 100 vaginally for 22 days now and when I wake up in the morning I feel very nauseous, which wears off by lunchtime.  However, I feel dizzy, uptight and off balance for most of the day. I am also quite itchy and have an upset stomach.

I just wondered whether I am intolerant to the Utrogestan or whether this will wear off once I get used to it.

Thanks.

Hi Jules, I think it's a bit early to conclude that you have an intolerance to progesterone. Utrogestan is quite difficult to adjust to to start with - it certainly can cause insomnia, depression, stomach upset, nausea and tiredness. I never managed to get past these side effects so have switched to Provera, but you need to give it longer to see if it settles. All I would say is that for all the wonderful things said about Utrogestan, it seems to be the one single thing that causes the most problems on this forum.

It sounds like it to me Jules53 I have all those symptoms except the nausea. A good indicator is whether you could tolerate the contraceptive pill (especially the pop), I never could and have struggled with all forms of progesterone.

Like Racjen says you could persevere and see if it gets any better x

Thanks racjen and Periniwpost.

I tolerated the pill OK and was on it for a long time years ago. I was going to leave it tonight and for a few days to see if I feel better but do you know how long it would take for the Utrogestan to get out of my system? I thought I could leave it for a few days and if it eases off, start it again at the weekend and go and see the doctor on Monday to talk about alternatives if I get the symptoms again.

Not sure what to do now🙄. Thanks for your replies x
