Utrogestan nausea and tiredness
« on: June 14, 2019, 07:47:24 AM »

Hi

I'm on day 18 of 100mg of Utrogestan vaginally with Evorel 50 Oestrogen patches. Every morning I have nausea and stomach ache and have a hard time getting out of bed as I'm so tired.

I'm 55 and haven't had a period for nearly 3 years. I've noted on here that some people take Utrogestan every other day. Should I persevere with every day for now or try it every other day? I do still have some underlying anxiety but it has improved.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks x

Hi Jules, I had awful problems with Utrogestan, never got on with it - made me so tired and depressed. I tried every other day but just bled all the time (but I am on Evorel 100 so maybe it just wasn't enough). I've now switched to Provera, and so far I have to say it's been much much better - I barely notice I'm taking it. UTrogestan seems to be held up as this wonder-hormone because it's body identical, but the advantage of the synthetic ones is you have to take much much less of them to have the same effect.

Thanks racjen. I'm not so tired now as the day has gone on but feel spaced out! I'll give it a few weeks to see if it improves.  If not, I'll ask for Provera.

Did you take the Utrogestan orally or vaginally out of interest? How are you feeling on Fluoxetine now?x

Hi jules hope the side effects ease off. But I have to say I cant tolerate it well at all. I've now been told by gynae to take it for 7 days. But it's a bit controversial as to how well it protects the lining. She said I will need scan every 6vmonths.

How are you now racjen? How long you been taking the provera do you take it continuously?

I took Utrogestan vaginally - still hated the stuff. I'm taking Provera continuously because I really don't want the ups and downs of withdrawal and having to have periods again (although my GP was dubious and is checking it with a specialist gynaecologist, but as it states on this site that it's fine I'm doing it anyway). So far so good, been on it for about 6 weeks.

As far as Fluoxetine goes, I've made it through 3 weeks and the anxiety and depression are now back down to the same level as before I started it. It's still disrupting my sleep but not to the extent that I can't function. So I'm just waiting and hoping that I'll start to see some improvement soon.

That's good to know about Provera, thanks. Will see how Utrogestan goes and ask for a change if I need to.

I'm glad the Fluoxetine is starting to work for you. These last few days have been better for me on it too. I started at 20mg for 5 weeks but dropped down to 10mg 4 weeks ago, so fingers crossed I'm on the right dose🤞

Thanks for your reply x

I wouldn't say I'm seeing any improvement - simply that the worst side-effects of fluoxetine have abated and I'm back to where I was to start with. Still waiting to see if anything positive comes of it.....

Me too racjen. Because I had 3 good days in a row I thought it had started to settle but I woke up this morning with high anxiety/agitation😢. No nausea and tiredness but just anxiety.

It is patch change day so it could be that. Beginning to lose hope with it now. Hope you improve soon x

So pleased to hear that Provera seems to suit you racjen and things are moving in the right direction for you hope it continues.

Just out of interest what dose of Provera are you using each day ?

Take care

Yes Ianzlover I second that  and also   If you feel able to share racjen. Are you still happy with the provera?
I'm looking to change my progesterone. I agree wholeheartedly with your sentiments about utrogestan. I'm sick of being told by my docs how "body identical" and "well tolerated it is when it has such a bad effect on me.

I'm  tnot taking it at all again at moment which I'm told is risky on such a high patch but uve not had a bleed after another 3 week hiatus from it.
I'm dreading restarting it.

Hi Tc

Can Utrogestan make you feel spaced out, shaky  and anxious? Had a really good day yesterday but today I am feeling awful. I'm on the continuous regime and have been taking it for 21 days. I'm having good days and bad at the moment. Not sure if it's the HRT or Fluoxetine.
