Hi, this is my 1st time on here , I've  been looking online and trying to understand the reality of the menopause !!!
I've heard so many different things about it but am still totally confused  :-\.
I went to see my g.p and she gave me a few web sites including this one.
She was on about putting me on HRT patches , apart from that not much more.
My question is how do you know when you have finished the menopause????
I've been without a period for 9 months now and before that it was 12 months.
I'm not on any type of contraception and have 21 out of 34 symtoms. So far things haven't been to bad but feel things are stepping up a gear , ( poor hubby getting burnt off it).
I don't know where to start to get the correct information.
So I'm hoping you lovely ladies can help me please  ;)
Thanks for reading this and look forward to some helpful advice.

Hi Lozzie &  :welcomemm:
It's good that your doctor suggested this website to go to for info - it's the best!!  ;D
Not sure I can answer your question about knowing when your through the menopause. It's a difficuilt one to answer. I'm 61 & still on HRT but consider myself having "come out the other side" as I haven't had a period for years now.
Not much help but others will come along soon & welcome you etc.
Let us know how old you are as that may help with a few suggestion etc.
Read as much as you can on here as you will learn a hell of a lot.

:welcomemm: Lozzie. My GP guided me to here as well. The ladies are a font of knowledge. Nothing is off limits and there are always others in the same situation willing to share advice and experiences. I was finished through the usual meno symptoms by 50 (now 68) but other things over the years do happen to our bodies, VA being a major one.  Again there is always an answer here so keep posting

Menopause is literally the last monthly period.  Symptoms may start or continue for years though.  Maybe decide which symptom you would like to ease?  Some find keeping a mood/food/symptom diary of use.

Browse round.  Make notes.  Do read the threads on vaginal atrophy  ;)

Many GPs still believe that one has to suffer hot flushes in order to be menopausal but that is rubbish  ;)
