Hi ladies.  I've been taking Femoston 1/5 for 8 weeks now but have had 2 ‘proper' bleeds and am spotting again now (brown-like bleed). I told the doctor when I saw her and she sent me for a scan which I've now had.  I think the lady who did the scan said my endometrium was 4 which I think is ok, isn't it ? The results of my scan should be back on Friday and GP said she would text me once received.  I was wondering if you could give me any advice on why I might still be bleeding and whether I should expect this to settle.  I'm going on holiday on 17th June and don't really want to have to wear tampons and all that jazz 🙄. I'm defo starting to feel better on this particular HRT so don't really want to change AGAIN !!

Some bleeding is expected for the first 6 months while on continuous combined HRT and unfortunately there is nothing you can do to stop it as far as I know - perhaps progestogen tablets in addition may do? If your womb lining is normal then it is just your body adjusting to the new regime,. It can take a while for the lining to stop responding. A paper I read somewhere mentioned that initially when taking continuous combined HRT parts of the lining can be secretory (from the progesterone)  and parts proliferative (from the oestrogen) so bleeding can still occur until it becomes nore uniform. I can't remember the technical explanation (in terms of the receptors and biochemical processes) of how continuous combined HRT actually works to prevent endometrial stimulation.

Sorry that doesn't help in relation to your holidays though....but if you feel well on this HRT sounds like you might have to grin and bear it if you can - yes tampons are a pain in your 60's!!!!

Does it mean anything if you don't get any bleeding? I haven't had any yet with Evorel Conti.

Hi Katejo. You shouldn't get bleeding with Evorel Conti as it's a continuous hrt, but you can expect breakthrough bleeding in first 6 months. If you are not getting bleeding then it's going it's job x

Yes I only meant breakthrough bleeding which is listed as a side effect on the leaflet. I am starting to get some other side effects such as stomach discomfort and slight nausea. I feel quite off today with a headache as well. Perhaps because I have experimented with using a whole patch for the past week instead of half. Think I will go back to half patches until I see the consultant again next month. Tried whole because I hadn't noticed any changes with halves.
