Ablation
« on: May 24, 2019, 12:43:34 PM »

Hi everyone.

I've not posted for a while as everything has been going well but have just been reading all the posts about ablation.  I'm booked in for ablation on the 7th June as I've been having heavy bleeding, sometimes flooding, for best part of a year now.  I'm been on HRT for over a year now, prior to that I had 8 months of no periods, and have now been having peri-menopause symptoms for about 4 years (I'm now 44!).

Anyway the bleeding has been getting too much, it's pretty much constant but varies in heaviness and I'm sick of getting caught short and being in a mess.  I had a hysteroscopy in January to check the lining and remove any fibroids.  They thought I had one from the scan but when they went in to get it there wasn't one?!  My question is how long people had off work after the ablation?  I've been told to expect a recovery of 2-3 weeks and have told work I'll probably be off a week but will work at home (as the timing isn't great with deadlines).

I'm also getting married for the first time in September so want it all done and out of the way quickly so I can enjoy the wedding and the hen do's.  Any advice would be great.

Thanks,
Sarah x

Thanks ladies for your replies. I feel a bit happier about it all. Another question, did you all take something to reduce the bleeding before your op? I thought from what I'd read I'd have to take something so it's not so messy on the day but I've not been offered anything.

Thanks for the wedding wishes too! Getting excited now and can't wait to enjoy my day without worrying (fingers crossed)

Xx

I was in a right state on the day and actually bleed all over the corridor as couldn't wear underwear or a pad 🙄(I did warn them but they insisted no undies etc) I had to walk to the theatre so someone had to get a mop and bucket out 😮.  Anyway when it was over she must have hoovered me out as I had no bleeding at all just some pink watery discharge and some bits that looked like scabs x

Oh my God Zara that's awful! If I ever had doubts about having it done yesterday got rid of them. We went to the cinema with my OH and his two kids. On standing up at the end I knew something wasn't right, I knew I was flooding. I had light blue pants on and it was everywhere, even dripping down my legs. Luckily I had a biggish bag with me so was able to hold it in front of me whilst we left. My OH was amazing and got me home asap. What a nightmare!  :'(

Oh Sadie that's awful, that happened to my sister, she was going to work & stood up to get off the bus & whoosh,it happened to me too but thankfully I was heading back to my car but happened all the time at home, I eventually got a hysterectomy, greatest thing I ever did
