Hair loss causes?
« on: May 17, 2019, 01:38:51 PM »

Ladies I keep losing hair, any advice. On evorel conti? I've been switched to sequi. Half patch results in crashes in energy. I wonder if hormone is the cause. Too much or too little. X

Hi Hvenab, it's possible that the progestogen in the Evorel Conti/Sequi patches is wrong for you.  The norethisterone they contain is derived from testosterone & some women find this causes them to shed hair.  That said, we can lose hair for other reasons & it is unfortunately normal for hair to thin to some extent as we age, but I imagine as you are posting about it, yours is more than you'd expect.

Might be worth switching to an HRT regime with a different form of progesterone.  The dydrogesterone in Femoston is considered "kinder" & the body identical micronised progesterone in Utrogestan is also not an androgenic form.  That said, we all react differently & I think I remember reading that some women on MM have found testosterone helps their hair, so I'm afraid it's a case of trial & error.

Just a thought - do you have a thyroid condition, as this can cause hair loss?

There are women who post here with far more knowledge about hair loss than me, so with any luck they will be along to give some good advice.  I just saw you'd had no replies yet & didn't want you to feel alone with it.  I hope you manage to get it sorted.

Hey wrensong thanks so much for making me feel cared for and  ot so lonesome  :)

I have no known conditions yet. Before HRT I got stages of lots of hair loss. I wo der if it's not enough of a hormone? I'm on conti and present and now switched to sequi. So trial and error like you say. It's one hell of a rollercoaster. Is femosten a tablet? Gps all vary in opinions so it's difficult to know who's correct.  Hopefully someone e can feed in  to this about hair shedding. Thank u

Yes Femoston is tablet form & comes in Conti & Sequi versions in different strengths.  If you were to try Utrogestan for the progesterone you would need to use a separate form of oestrogen - patch or gel, in whatever strength suited you best.  The Utrogestan can be used sequentially, to give a cycle or on a conti basis to prevent a bleed.  I take it as you have been on a conti regime before that you're postmenopause.

Might be worth getting your Vitamin D level checked as that can be linked to hair loss.
Supplementing with Biotin 5-10 000 units a day could also help.  :)

As Birdy says - Utrogestan, being body identical, is considered the kindest form.  The (synthetic) Dydrogesterone in Femoston is considered the next best I think.  But we all react differently, so again trial & error, I'm afraid.
