New GP appointment
« on: May 15, 2019, 04:07:41 PM »

Well i'm just back from my appointment and he admitted he didn't have a clue.
I wrote a timeline of HRT doses and symptoms since I started and he said he needs more time and to get some advice from the gynacology dept in local hospital who were useless and didn't listen to me when i saw them 6 months ago..
I mention the word anxiety and they seem to focus on that despite me saying that its very mild and its only symptom which seems to go away.
He mentioned Tibolone (?) , anti depressants and amiltriptyline.
So he's going to look into things and give me a call.
He did give me a prescription for Estrogel and said for the time being its ok for me to use that and the 100 Estradot.
Bloody menopause  >:(

I did. Had high hopes for this appointment. Feel a bit gutted. And chemist only had Oestrodose which I don't get one with.
Now to start looking at Tibolone and amiltriptyline.
I need wine.

Red or white?  ;)

Is your anxiety hormonally linked?  What helps?

Disappointing he's not clued up but you're half way there if he admits it and tries to find out, and at least you have your prescription. Not certain but I think you can ask for a referral to a different clinic? I think you need a meno clinic not a gynecologist. I saw one of them too and they seem to be completely clueless about meno.

He said he would ring or send a letter but i think when he does I will mention the nearest meno clinic. Im suprised no one has mentioned it. Anxiety is hormonal. When the dose is ok, like now for example, the anxiety goes away.
Red AND white. Im not fussy lol x

I've noticed that in all the recent publicity about menopause (breakfast tv this week for example, but also numerous other tv, radio and newspaper features) highlight the physical symptoms of menopause plus depression, but they never seem to mention anxiety. Given how many women on here suffer from what's clearly another menopausal symptom, why do they persist in ignoring the anxiety? It's incredibly debilitating and isolating, and having to battle to get it recognised for what it is makes it that much worse.

I just cannot believe that GPs know so little when half the population go through it! I also gave this GP the printout i had comparing transdermal hrt. He obviously knew so little about it and kept going on about tablets and the risks with them are just as low as transdermal.

He's on a learning curve too.  Get him on side and work together.

I also said to the GP because of something that i read here that while on HRT it is useful to test oestradial levels if i don't appear to be absorbing and he basically said that was rubbsh.

Some don't think that hormone levels are worth blood testing because they alter all the while.  My Gynae treats on symptoms ;-)

Im remembering other things now....bloody brain fog. He indicated coming off HRT and replacing with the anti dps etc. Told him about osteoporosis being in my family (mum, gran, great gran) and i'm under 50 and he said HRT does very little to help prevent that. Also told him that we have a history of clotting aswell when he mentioned tablets and again he said there was little risk.
I hope he does do some reading "when he has 10 minutes" as he put it.
