Blood tests before further repeat Evorel Conti prescription
« on: April 27, 2019, 04:25:35 PM »

I am on a 3 month trial of Evorel Conti half patches prescribed by the consultant. The hospital only gave me 8 patches so I had to go to the GP surgery this week to request the rest. The GP has issued 3  more boxes  but has said that they won't give me a further repeat after this one until I get a blood test done. Are they likely to be testing the oestrogen levels to see if the dose is correct or do they usually check levels of something else as well?

Hormonal blood tests are reliably un-reliable so I would ring to find out exactly what the GP is looking for.  Why wasn't it explained  :-\.  My Gynae doesn't do blood tests, he treats on symptoms.  Let us know!

I haven't had a chance to speak to a GP about it. I was just told that I needed the blood test when i went to the pharmacy to collect the prescription and they had only been told to refer me for a blood test. No more details. Yes I know that the tests are unreliable so that was why I wondered about the reason for it.

I've been on HRT for 12 years but have never had my oestrogen level tested.

I will go and collect the blood test form from the surgery this week and then I will know exactly what they are testing.

Katejo - GP may perhaps have been thinking of checking how your thyroid is responding to the HRT - as I believe you said in another thread you are on Thyroxine?  My experience is that it's not only oral HRT that affects thyroid hormone levels (for those on thyroid medication).  Don't worry though - altered thyroid hormone levels should not be a reason to stop the HRT - simply a case of adjusting your dose of Thyroxine.

Maybe. Should find out on Tuesday.

My routine blood test is more to do with a blood count (platelets)  and liver function (in connection with me taking Tegretol). I suspect that the GP is thinking of the interaction between Tegretol and HRT in the liver but I am on patches not tablets so I wouldn't have thought that there would be a problem. As I have plenty of Evorel Conti for now, I think I will delay the test until after my holiday as I go off next week.

Hi Katejo, thank you for the update.  Not sure whether finding out the reason for the test will have been reassuring - I hope so.  I hope the Evorel Conti is helping symptoms.  Have a fab holiday.
