Cut up Patches feedback
« on: April 18, 2019, 08:57:25 PM »

Hi all, I've been on quarter of patch for two weeks so far feeling good. The light is on, feels great. Gp said they dont do a reduced evorel patch so have the 50 and cut down. Thank u to hurdity for suggestion. I'd almost gave up. Gp said if u cut patches you lose some hormone. It may be early days. Just feeding back.

That's rubbish - I've been advised by several experts that cutting up patches is fine. I thought they did do an Evorel 25 though.

I'm sure there is an Evorel 25, or there was when I googled it just now!

Hi, they do evorel 25, which I use, but then you have to have separate progesterone. The combined evorel patch only comes in 50 or 100.

I am likely to increase to 50 but think it would have been too much of a leap to go 0 to 50 in one go.

I have just started evorel conti and the meno consultant told me to use half patches. i stumbled across a newspaper article online which claimed that patches can't be cut but I am more inclined to believe the consultant than the Daily Mail!  ;D

If you have half a conti patch you will only get half the dose for progesterone too. I don't know how much this matters but you might be risking a build up of the womb lining.

I have browsed past discussions re. cutting Evorel Conti in half. I notice that Hurdity has said more than once that it is ok and that Dr Currie has approved it.

Perhaps it is OK, I was just querying it as I can't see how you can cut the patch in half and still get the full dose of progesterone. I'm assuming you do still need the full dose as if you use eg utrogeston you use the same dose regardless of the amount of oestrogen.

Hi Ladies, thanks for all responses. I.do feel much more balanced on half patch and intend increasing the dose in a couple of weeks. Because of the reaction previously I stopped the patch.until the knowledgable hurdity suggested half patch until your body get used to it. The gp felt that the medicine would leak.im not sure that's true.bit noticing a mood improvement etc. Hurdity said gauge it on how u I feel and adjust. Thanks again.

I started on evorel sequi last July and was advised to cut them in half by the specialist menopause clinic and to increase as I thought fit. This was to avoid side effects especaiily as I suffered from bad headaches. I increased to 3/4 after Christmas and a couple of months ago to a whole patch and feel so much better. I wish I had increased before, but was really nervous about it. Re build up of the lining I had a pelvic scan and this didn't seem to be a problem. Good luck.

Hi shrosphirelass, can I ask what your periods are like? I was prescribed everol sequi but haven't started them yet. I was wondering if you could cut them in half? Would that mean you do that with the Conti ones as well. Great you are feeling better. X

I cut up both the evorel 50 and the conti into half, as advised. I was having regularish periods before I started even though I am 57. Since being on HRT I have had periods but they do vary in timing and duration, not as heavy as they were. After a few months they settled down to being the third week of the cycle for a few days. Having increased the dose they are more erratic, but I'm guessing that this may be because its early days on a whole patch.  I waited for several months before starting HRT after getting the prescription and built up very slowly. In retrospect I wish I'd taken the plunge earlier. Good luck.

Hi after cutting up patches so half patch I have found i start to crash. My gp has prescribed sequi but on the full patch I get headaches and feeling odd. My gp says it's wrong to cut patches up. Another says the medicine leaks. Im confused. What should I do?
