Confused
« on: April 15, 2019, 06:33:34 PM »

Hi ladies I am hoping you can help or give me some advice. I will be 51 in 2 weeks, still having periods but irregular. Over the last couple of years had bloods to check hormones which have come back normal.
My symptoms are,
Dry skin, brittle nails, hair thining, night sweats, fatigue, joint ache, tummy issues . My doctor has given me hrt despite blood results. The other doctor said I shouldn't take it .
My concern is if I take it and my bloods were normal would I end up having to much eostrogen .
Iam just so confused about what to do , has anyone has normal blood results but took hrt and it's helped them.
Thanks . X

Hi blood tests are not needed if you are over 45. Blood tests are unreliable and your doctor should go on symptoms x

Hormone blood tests are reliably un-reliable  ::).  My Gynae won't do them, relying on symptoms.  Treating appropriately.

Sounds menopausal from where I'm sitting.  Why did you see a different Dr .  :-\

Hormone Replacement Therapy - as oestrogen levels drop the body may become dry: inside and out.  Also muscles may become lax - aches and pains.

Hi Pink
I have no advice to offer as I'm relatively new to all this but just wanted to say I have pretty much the same symptoms as you and repeat normal bloods
It's interesting to read what others have said about blood tests being unreliable.
Hope you find the right way forward

51, irregular periods, hot flushes - can't see what else it could be apart from peri meno. I would try the HRT and expect some improvement. Might be worth reading the pinned Post advice for Husbands, there may be more symptoms you hadn't associated with meno. My joint pain in the hips didn't go til I added testosterone.

I started taking mine at 50 1/2 with lots of periods (not regular, just frequent)

Oestrogen levels go up and down a lot in peri.  Your hypothalamus will be putting out a lot of FSH to get the ovaries to work when the ovaries can produce a lot of follicles at one time and oestrogen can rise sky high.

The oestrogen should stop you bottoming out and this will hopefully gradually reduce the highs over time.
