Today's struggle
« on: April 10, 2019, 07:52:13 AM »

A bit of a long one sorry in advance. I began having symptoms of perimenopause about 5 years ago may be a bit longer. These were anxiety which was and still is a big problem, brain fog, digestive problems which have been just awful. Mood swings, aching joints, sleep problems, long gaps between periods or very short time intervals they just come and go has the please. The vertigo can be horrendous, which makes it hard to function normally some days has in can't  leave the house or drive walking around a supermarket can be just a big no no. There are many other symptoms which I just can't remember because of the brain fog,,,,,,,,,Anyway I did go to the doctor about two years ago a few times they did a blood test on one trip and said my hormones were fine. Another time gave me antidepressants, which I didn't take, sent me for a scan of my womb found a cyst but was told nothing to worry about.. on one visit was told to take st John's wort, menopace.........forgot to say they also said it probably wasn't perimenopause because I don't suffer the hot flushes (this is about the only one of the 64 symptoms I don't get)
Anyway in the last few weeks my finger  nails have started to grow back and look really healthy forgot to say they went from being beautiful to looking like I worked on a road gang......also other days I actually felt normal still been having two weekly periods, I am on day 24 at the moment with no bleed but feel like it's due any time. My new symptoms over the last couple of weeks have been bowels sudden needing the loo with stomach ache, makes me feel a bit sick. I seem to go alot more and sometimes it's very loose........After being constipated on and off since perimenopause started.......so my health anxiety is through the roof.......l should say I only take cbd oil for the anxiety which for me as helped loads I can't say enough how much better I feel since taking....this is because I have no confidence in the dr about my menopause so won't go back.....I also take apple cider vinegar when my stomach is bloated and I have a spoonful of manuka honey in a morning.........Anyway when i started to have good days i did think i may be coming through the other side,,,,,but no now I have dizziness which is just awful, stomach ache, cold sweats, sore boobs, pmt/s, vertigo is through the roof, I feel like I am trembling just loads of things I can't remember,,,,,the brain fog is so frustrating and frightening I sometimes think I am going mad,,, can't remember things some days which I should ....IBS is just awful at the no toooooo......
Sorry for the moan but if someone reads this and thinks this is them and it helps,,,,,,,other people's posts help me when I read them and I no I am not alone :-\

Hi there, you sound like so many of us on here, anxiety, foggy head, gut problems,it never ends, how old are you? I was told I'd ibs about 30 years ago but lately it became progressively worse, after a colonoscopy I was told I had diverticulor disease, which is quite common when you get to late 40s onwards.for vertigo I take 2 stugeron 3 x daily,it really helps,it's a travel sickness tablet,I don't know if you take other meds but if you can take them, they're great. As I write this I'm waiting at dr to get bloods checked to make sure ovaries ok,of course HA makes me believe there is something wrong but fingers crossed,we really are a bunch on here.🤪

Hi discokaren

I'm so sorry you're feeling so awful, it really is a sorry business isn't it?

You definitely sound like you're peri - how old are you if you don't mind me asking?

It's definitely worth a visit to your gp for a good once over to rule out things like low iron, calcium, vit D, thyroid, diabetes, etc - you'll need a blood test for those.

Have you thought about hrt? It can really help with all the horrible symptoms. Write a list of everything you're suffering, and include night sweats / flushes if the gp is only going to rely on that to prescribe - sometimes it helps to bend the truth a little to get the help you need.

Good luck with it all - and yes, you can use hrt in peri xx

Hi Discokaren,
I think if I were you, I would be changing my GP :-* I had a lot of the symptoms that you describe, but they seem to have been alleviated with HRT. The dizziness that I had on & off for years, has gone.
I do hope things pick up for you :-*

Hi there - noticed you mentioned taking CBD oil and I have been thinking of trying this recently for anxiety, but am so unsure of how much to take, when and which sort is best...would really appreciate any thoughts and guidance on this.

Your day and symptoms are not dissimilar to mine, but I have been on HRT for just over 2 years now but don't yet seem to have found the right one for me, or it just doesn't agree with me, but I must say my dizziness and vertigo definitely improved with the HRT. Good to read your post though and know I am not alone with my problems  :)

I would go for the higher strength cbd,you can get drops to put under your tongue, doesn't taste so nice but very effective,if you have an olive tree shop near you, they sell it

All what you described is exactly what I suffered from for about 3 years. Like you, I haven't really had hot flushes or night sweat. Main issue was buzzing, pins and needles, tinnitus, feeling wired all the time, awful diziness and lightheadness to the point I couldn't drive, balance awful and oh the brain fog. .. Saw a number of consultants, had mris and all came back normal.

I've started to feel much better in the last 3 months or so, although brain fog is at its worse.

I'm now convinced that these symptoms were not caused by a reduction of oestrogen but the opposite with my body fighting against it and sending surges of it. Indeed, all my symptoms were actually worse on hrt.

I strongly believe that my brain fog comes from poor quality sleep and not getting enough restoring sleep... because even in the middle of the night, my brain is stiil buzzing.

I am gradually feeling a bit better as I am entering the full on menopause (no periods for 12 months).

My mum said that she felt awful in the peri part but great afterwards, so maybe some women do struggle more with surges of oestrogen than the gradual reduction of it.

Morning!  Sounds 'within normal limits' from here HORMONES  >:(

When I was having monthly periods, 10 mins. B4 a bleed began I would need the loo.  NOW.  Even when a period wasn't due.  I have iBS these days; slow transit - then whoosh, need the loo several times a day and it's like pellets!  I have a good book and a crossword puzzle by the loo  ::)

Some ladies never get flushes which GPs don't 'get', many think that unless one suffers with those they aren't in menopause  >:(

Hi akarena I started taking a 10% cbd oil I have a local shop that sells this I have 4 drops a day in the morning and it seems to be helping, its trial and error, before a period it's due or in times of quite severe anxiety I have 2/3 drops in the afternoon also. It has made a huge difference.  Good luck xx

My peri was undiagnosed for 2 years because I didn't have hot flushes even though I was 56 & 57 which should have been a clue! Agree if you want HRT (I would strongly recommend) and you have a clueless gp it can easier to say you have them, seems hot flushes & irregular periods are the only symptoms many recognise. I had brain fog, insomnia, anxiety & fatigue. No experience of your other symptoms but it seems to me you feel so bad HRT can only improve things.
