Zumenon & Utrogestan
« on: April 09, 2019, 10:51:56 AM »

Hi ladies, hoping for some advice/thoughts please. I have been on Zumenon for nearly 6 wks now and Utrogestan coming up on 3 (put off starting the utro due to side effects). I was previously on femoston 2/10 wasnt perfect still had some flushes etc but no major complaints with it. Since starting the new regime my flushes have increased a lot, night sweats back, permanent bright red chest and neck, feeling breathless doing minor things were i wouldnt have before, tiredness to the extreme feel like i am coming round from a sedation trying to get up at 6.20am and low mood no motivation to do anything.

Hate feeling this way, i rang the hrt clinic they wont review me until September need to give it time to settle. Dont think i can do this until September.

Why does it take so long for the oestrogen to settle (coping with flushes etc) when you have already been on hrt? Will the effects of the utro build and build so creating even more tiredness/low mood as it builds levels?
Wish they had just left me on femoston!, changed me over as the dr believes i am now post due to no bleeding for over a year on it.

Many thanks in advance for any replies.

You didn't need to come off the Femoston. Many ladies continue with sequential HRT well into post menopause to avoid the side effects of continuous progesterone. It really wasn't an issue if you weren't getting bleeds on the Femoston - not every women gets bleeds on sequis HRT. I didn't get on with Utrogestan that well at all, it doesn't suit everyone.  Maybe consider trying Provera instead or have a Mirena fitted.  It would be better if you had oestrogen as either gel or patch - tends to give better absorption with fewer side effects.

Utrogestan does have a strong sedative effect.  You could try using Utrogestan vaginally and on a sequential regime to reduce the side effects - so take oestrogen all the time but use Utrogestan for 10-12 days each month and push the capsules up into your vagina instead of taking it orally. You might get away with using the Utrogestan for only 10 days each month.

Hi,

Zumenon is the same estrogen in Femoston. Check the dosages are the same on the treatment section on the section at the top of the page. Utrogestan sounds like the problem as it is a different progesterone than Femosten .  It can cause sedation. There are lots of ladies on here that are post meno on sequential regimes. You can take Femosten on a continuos regime also which might suit you better? But it can take up to 3 months to get used to a change, unfortunately. There are ladies on here much more knowledgable than me and I am sure that they can advise. So sorry you feel awful.

Hi ladies thank you for your replies. Pepperminty yep dosages are the same that is why i dont understand the return of hot flushes, nite sweats surely the flow of oestrogen should just continue on as per. I am starting to wonder if i need an increase due to this and the low mood anxious feeling has returned too!

Dancinggirl i asked on the phone could i use it vaginally and was told 'absolutely not only used in this way for IVF' also my round utro tablet is no good for this no guarantee of it delivering  properly. I mentioned this website and ladies doing the same but still flat no.

If things are still the same in a couple of wks i will try the hrt clinic again but i dont believe they will budge until September.
