Still in pain after starting vagifem and stopping.
« on: April 08, 2019, 04:50:29 PM »

I posted last week about having a terrible inflammation or thrush reaction to vagifem.  I have stopped and not used it again since last Tuesday.  I treated for thrush with fluconazole but 5 days later I am worse not better.  I am using the normal treatments of sitz baths and YES VM.  I have a GUM clinic appointment on Thursday to see what is going on.  I now have bladder symptoms so don't know if I have a UTI.  This seems so unfair as I cannot tolerate the oestrogen that I really need to help myself with.  I don't know why im so inflamed and scared.  I know I have to just wait until Thursday but my anxiety is through the roof.  Im just looking for anyone with similar experience that can give me some hope I can resolve this.  Nothing is helping.  Maybe this is how bad it will be forever. I really wish I had never used the vagifem.  I was ok before with just mild flare ups every few weeks.  I had it for months and didn't have te courage to use it but finally plucked up enough.  Thought I was doing really well until I finished the 2 week load.  Why is this so hard? xx

Hello Jessieblue.

I'm so sorry that you are suffering. Unfortunately I don't have any advice for you but I wanted to send hugs.

I'm sure ladies will be along soon to help you so don't despair, I'm sure help is out there.

Wishing you well and take care.

Jessie blue. So sorry you are in such pain.
Are you saying you were fine with the 2 week loading dose? If so it might be that the maintenance dose of twice a week is not enough for you to keep infections at bay

Some ladies on here cant take vagifem. It could be the other ingredients that upset you rather than the estrogen itself

Have you tried estriol cream?  It is estrone rather than estradiol and the "carrier" ingredients might suit you better.

It's good you have GUM clinic appointment. Lots of ladies on here have said they have been the  ones to get to the route of their issues. So dont despair.it doesnt have to be this bad forever
Good luck with your appointment xxx

Let us know how you get on!  It could be that the vagina requires more treatment than less.  Do take some pain relief.

Hi Ladies, yes I have tried 2 oestrogen creams and now vagifem.  I even got thrush from oestrogel!  So that's it for me.  I wish I had not tried it again as I already knew I couldn't tolerate oestrogen.  There must be some other ladies like me out there.  Its so hard when everyone is saying oestrogen treatment is the cure but your body simply cannot tolerate it for some reason.  I had just done 2 weeks of a tablet every night and that day I had the flare up, so I hadn't yet gone to twice a week.  It is definitely related to the vagifem because I was feeling quite good down there when I started.  Why why why did I do that!  Im so angry with myself. The vagifem actually ade my anxiety better.....I know shouldn't be possible but I was strangely without anxiety for the two weeks I took it.  Now along with horrendous inflammation.....I am sticking to my knickers......I have the worst anxiety and panic.  Honestly, this is no life.  ||I have had anxiety for 3 years and have no life at all anymore.  I go outside to get shopping and feed my horses and pick my son up from the station.  Otherwise I stay and hide indoors.  I really feel desperate.  No matter how hard I try I just cannot help myself and no one else can help me either.  I hope the GUM clinic can help me but if they don't know what it is how can they>

Localised HRT delivery is so localised it shouldn't migrate anywhere else.  Which is why it is quite safe for those of us that had treatment for breast disease.

Maybe have a look at your over-all diet.  It may be that sugar is causing symptoms?  Thrush thrives on sugars ....... it's a fungus .  Likes the damp too.

I remember a friend having yeast in the airing cupboard or fridge, I couldn't go into his kitchen incase it got out  :o .......

Vaginal problems are so tiring  :-\.  Take some pain relief, do you have any bicarbonate of soda - add lots to your evening bath and sit then rinse with boiled, cooled water and pat dry.  LIVE yoghurt applied is soothing.

Jessie blue. Please dont be angry at yourself  you were only trying to treat your symptoms like all of us
I have seen other ladies on here say the same thing. So you are not alone. Hopefully you will get some more replies.
I know its miserable but it's not long til your appointment and lets hope you get some answers
Have you seen the anxiety support thread in private lives?
