Some advice please
« on: March 27, 2019, 04:10:06 PM »

Hi ladies after my saga with GP (on another thread)
I was having a reaction to the high dose of progesterone 2 x 1/5 conti.
This was prescribed by my private gynae. basically bouts of high anxiety and depression. So a GP I have found at a local practice who specialises in gynae advised I drop down to 1/5 and see how this went for 3 weeks.  Well 2 weeks in and I am suffering dryness eyes ( but I have occular rosacea ) mouth, throat legs etc. Also crashing fatigue, and occasional hot flush (not too bad atm) Guessing oestrogen is not high enough. I use vagifem for down below so no issues there phew lol. Anyway dont really want to go back to sequi but what are my options?.Was thinking of stopping to see where I was But dont think my body is ready yet tbh.
Was thinking would a patch be higher in oestrogen? I know it would be better absorbed. Femeston suited me in so many ways but not sure about alternative progesterones Is evorel better tolerated?.
Ohh decisions I dont have an appointment with my specialist till May and go away in June so hoping I can come up with something.
Any ideas greatly appreciated

Hi Fairlady64.
I'm on Femoston Conti too, and this is my dilemma.
I take one and half mg, so I get a prescription for the 1mg & 0.5mg.
This does sort me out on the whole, but occasionally when my hormones shift, I find I need more, so I up the dose to 2mg....also, I know I'm getting the right amount of progesterone too.. I do get the dreaded side effects from the prog if I'm on the higher dose for too long, I think the longest I've been on it for was 10 days, so then I drop back down to the 1.1/2mg.
This has been the best for me, and also the best progesterone for me aswell.
Hope this helps you..xxxjd.

I think the alternative in your situation is to switch from a combined product, where the ratio of estrogen/progesterone is fixed, to separate elements which are easier to tweak to get the right balance for you. Many women on here use estrogen in the form of either patches or gel, combined with progesterone, which might be continuous or sequential, depending on what suits you best. I think the available options for separate progesterone are quite limited - Utrogestan (can be taken orally or vaginally) is bio-identical, but that apparently means you need a much higher dose, and many women suffer side effects. Provera is available orally, and as a synthetic progestin needs a much lower dosage to be effective. I'm sure there are others I'm not aware of; also some women find the Mirena coil, which gives out a small but continuous and localised dose of levonorgestrel (one of the synthetic progesterones) works very well. Sorry if that's too much information to take in, but it is a very complicated area and there's no 'one size fits all' solution.
