Does your sleeping position affect hot flushes ?
« on: March 25, 2019, 10:41:55 AM »

Hey everyone. After another bad night, I'm wondering whether the position you sleep in at night affects hot flushes ?
Has anyone changed position and found a difference ?
I'm not getting hot flushes, per se, I'm getting very hot, full stop.
I usually sleep on my front. I'm thinking of trying to sleep on my back tonight, or even propping myself up on pillows, so that I'm not fully lying down.
Any ideas welcome. xx

Hello, I also had bad night the minute I lay down I flushed up all over (not sweating) and it just didn't subside.  Got 4.5 tog cover which most of the time is only half on anyway, have tried sleeping every combination of ways nothing helps :(  Time to get the fan out of the loft as I do find this does help a bit.  Hope you have better night tonight.

I used to sleep on my front but I definitely get a lot hotter on my front.

I am now on HRT which has helped dramatically with my hot flushes but I do still get hot spells, I find a thin duvet and sticking my shoulder/arms and/or feet out helps keep me cool.

I now try to sleep on either side as I cannot sleep on my back.

Good luck!

I've had the fan going for a few weeks now. And I took the memory foam topper off my bed, as they retain heat. And I  don't wear anything. The only thing I can change now is the duvet. I suppose I could take an iced water bottle to bed with me. But I don't feel hot on the outside, just on the inside ... if that makes sense.

Hi,
I have one of the chill pillow toppers. They are great for part of the night, but I find it heats up and retains the heat as you get warmer.
I did try putting it in the fridge before bed, woks well but Felt like I had brain freeze and my ear was freezing❄️😱

I'll google chill pillows. It sounds like something I could put in the fridge, then put it on my 2nd pillow - and have it tucked down the side if my body. Maybe ?

I don't think it's sleeping position so much as covers and nightwear.  I don't flush now but still wake very hot at times.  The covers are on and off, even in winter.

Pants46,
That sounds like a plan, think I'll try that tonight.

So just went for a good it last night and took 1/2 a 5mg diazepam. Was nervous about taking it ... which is a bit daft. Got into bed at about 11pm, turned light off around 1am (I think). Slept through to 8am. I think I only woke up because the boiler started up.
Obviously can't do that everynight. So still need to find a long term solution. But its good to know that I can sleep through  :)

Hi pants 46, I feel my sweats are worse when I lay on my side. Even the joints in my arms are sweaty. X

Thanks Jaypo and Pink.
I used to sleep on my side, but then 20 years ago had surgery on my leg, so couldnt sleep on that side ... started sleeping on my front. Never went back.
Am not comfortable sleeping on my back. My boobs move towards my neck, and I feel like I'm being strangled. They are rather large !!!
I did sleep on my back for a couple of weeks when my appendix burst. I'll have to try again. Maybe get myself a good sports bra  ;)
