vagifem and estriol
« on: March 08, 2019, 07:26:06 PM »

Hi all

Just been refused estriol for my outbits as on 3 vagifem a week and is not the protocol for them to give me more. Am also on HRt systemic. They offered me steriod cream for my sore vulva. Oh my lord...oh my lord. My GPS are doing their best...they were not dismissive, examined me and listened and were professional. The thing is they have no confidence to prescribe this type of thing. So it is with great financial anxiety I have decided to get the mona lisa touch and down the line will also go private as I know Im going to be hiiting more HRT issues with docs. I love the NHS and my family work in NHS but its a lottery with the education of GPs in this area. Ive moved house and changed Docs . They are lovely but they just are not equipped to make these decisions. All very stressful. The pain is horrid, unrelenting,  the no sex is horrid....Im only 51 and cant continue with this pain. So anyway Im feeling sad frustrated and wishing you all well. Riverrunsfreex

So sorry to hear your problems I assume the systemic hrt is not improving things. How long have you been on it?  I know how depressing the pain is and all associated problems. It makes you feel so horrible. It makes me feel old before my time, I never thought such things happened to your vagina. I am no expert but I can't see how estriol applied externally can be that harmful, especially if you are in pain.  Maybe others on here can advise. As an emergency measure you could buy estriol on line maybe.  You sound so desperate and I wish I could help more.  I hope others can help on here.  It is all so frustrating when you don't feel as though the health professionals understand what you are going through.

Hi Suzysunday

Been on HRT almost 3 years and not relieved the vaginal symptons. Yes I'm feeling old before my time too...I dont want my time on earth needlessly to have suffering. And the word here is needless.  Vagifem helped initially but I pushed for three as I was in such distress. I have come to the end of searching and am relieved that  in my mind Ive decided that in terms of menopause I will not be going to my doctors...but by specialists who can prescribe the same liscened and approved HRT...Im not talking compounded or non regulated...just the approved HRT that has been tailored to the patients symptons. Im determined to get this sorted and empower myself. xxxx

How distressing to be on hrt and not relieve symptoms. I hope you find someone who can help. I am struggling with VA and it's all so horrible.

I am on systemic HRT, three pumps of Estrogel, so quite a high dose, plus vagifem every day and i also use Ovestin on the outer bits most nights too, i went private to get that, it was well worth the money.

Thankyou Ladies ...it is something I have tried to avoid but going privately seems the only way through the prescribing messx

River. I'm sorry you e had this problem. I have come up against the exact same issue recently.
I posted on here a  thread "furious about vagifem". I wont repeat it all but the long and short of it is my gynae thinks I shouldn't need anything extra on top of systemic HRT (,I've been diagnosed with VA) and will only give me 1 vagifem per week and no estriol.

I'm in the throes of complaining about it.

Why should  a condition that can be helped go untreated and possibly get worse. I have been boiling angry over it but there is a part of me that could just sit down and cry with the unfairness of how some of us ladies are suffering and not  being helped.

I will post on my furious about vagifem thread if there are any developments.
Please let us know how you get on.x

As everybody says you shouldn't have to go private, but i was in despair with the VA, couldn't sleep, sit down, walk, its an awful condition, i now lead a normal life with the odd blip only, fingers crossed!

That the frustrating thing isnt it Tinkerbell. The treatment is out there and it's very effective.
Glad you have had good results from it.

I get so annoyed by incompetent doctors and hate to hear there are others who are suffering with the VA. My named GP, I now refuse to see him, told me he wouldn't prescribe anymore Vagifem for 3 months, I told him to imagine he had sunburnt his testicles as that's what VA feels like.

Tinkerbell. What a great response!!
It actually feels like cruelty being denied meds that work and most of the time ita because the doc is ilI formed. It's such a personal and private suffering too.

That's terrible tinker bell, but what a good response. Like Tc says, it just seems cruel and denying you quality of life. I really think some of these gp/ doctors are a power mad control freaks.

I have had MLT as have about 10 in my VA group. It's NOT a cure all for many.

So I would get the estriol cream via a private script from an online pharmacy ( all legal ) or a private specialist appointment & try estriol as well for 6 months, much cheaper the MLT & worth a try.

Many ladeis in my VA group buy there estriol via an online chemist due to postcode lottery or  knowledge & common sense amongst GPs.

Hi ladies..TC..oh my word how horrid to be given only one vagifem and no other help...this is appalling..and Tinkerbell..good on you for that description to your Gp. Thankyou Maryjane for the online pharmacy tip..I have only been wary incase the medicine wasnt genuine etc. I am grateful for what you say about MLT and I'm going to take a chance on it. Even it makes no difference I know I will have also explored that option. Then laterdown the line I will also go privately. Will let you know how I get on
