Stress Induced Illnesses
« on: March 06, 2019, 10:57:15 AM »

Ladies I would like your opinion on something, as a matter of interest as OH tells me I am talking garbage.  :-\

I have been through a particularly trying year with many emotional upheavals and in the past month or two have started developing random aches and pains, flitting between fingers, toes, stiff achy knees, just generally a feeling of malaise and random aches and pains in the joints.
I firmly believe that whatever it is, has been aggravated by stress, what are your thoughts?

I managed to delete half my reply  >:(  :D

Stress can cause all kinds of weird symptoms: inside and out.  You are not talking rubbish.  What's he trying to prove?  ;)

Where are you in the menopause journey etc.?  Maybe keep a mood/food/symptom diary?  It focuses how you are feeling daily.

For me stress causes: gut problems, bowel problems, back-ground headaches ........ I deal with sudden incidences at the time, probably due to adrenaline kicking in: 6-9 months later I react  :-\

Anxiety: visiting Mum, dental appts., hairdresser appt (2-day); anything out of daily routine ups those feelings which then encourages other aches and pains.   >:( bugga ..........  ::)

Flight/fight response is natural. It has protected us from Sabre toothed tigers etc. since God was a woman ;-).  It doesn't help me, knowing that anxiety and adrenaline surges are 'natural', as the physicality brings me to my knees.

I think that finding agencies to give advice/support during times of stress is important.  Which is why I contacted MIND Charity when a friend ended his Life.  They helped enormously.  Sharing really does make a difference  ;)

Anything that you would like to share Cassie?

Yes agree -i've had a very stressful couple of years with family bereavement at the same time as hitting the menopause and I am sure all the menopause symptoms and other ailments are much worse because of stress.

Hi Cassie

another yes from me.

I have had chest pain, back pain, finger pain,  gastritis (brought on suddenly by a severe anxiety attack), other digestive problems. Like CLKD says, I think the body just fires off loads of Adrenalin and other responses, which cause all sorts of physical problems.

Add that to the menopause, and you have a perfect storm!

CLKD, I am interested in your experience with MIND, how did they help?  I'm willing to try anything to try to get a grip on things

When my friend ended his Life - suddenly and without warning - my depression took over so I felt at risk.  I sent an e-mail to my local MIND asking for information regarding their walk in centre and times.  Without requesting it the Manager kept in contact with me via e-mail until I was more stable.

Absolutely beyond doubt in my mind.  It's happened to me and peri made it much worse.  I now have a very low tolerance to any stress.  Drives me mad 😣
Definitely for me going back a long way (well before menopause). It is the main reason why I haven't progressed to a more senior post at work. I wish I could be more thick skinned (less sensitive to criticism).

I have often wonder if stress can make the menopause symptoms worse. As I started the menopause my mum went from hospital into a care home unexpectedly and was told she has months max a year. I had full meltdown with menopause symptoms hot flushes day and night Adrenalin surges you name it. It's 17 months later and the stress has been horrendous first care home she was terribly mistreated and abused now in second one and now have major issues!!I can only take a low dose hrt and my menopause symptoms have excelled hot flushes all night no sleep, aniexty over everything even things I like. I now know from consultant that I would suffer as I am one of them women who suffer from hormone changes ie pmt pnd and now this! But do stress make it worse🤔

Sorry to hear about that Donna-Paul  I had stress when my Mum was suddenly ill and died quite quickly but that was well before menopause so I can't compare. I do sometimes get stressed over my Dad now but really don't know how much that is affected by meno. Hot flushes haven't really been a problem for me.

Another YES from me too.
Without a shadow of a doubt, stress causes lots of illness.
Years ago, my OH, was so stressed, he lost some of his hair, eyelashes, and bald spots in his beard. Alopecia. It's grown back now, but all due to stress.

6 weeks ago father in law died, had Alzheimer's for 5 yrs while we looked after him. Last 18 months in care home. I was stressed out all the time but since he's gone it's got worse. Now permanent headache and we have to sell our home and get mortgage to pay his care fees. He left his house (50yrs old) to us and hubby says we will live there when we've done it up. I cry thinking of all the hassle.  There's another family member who is jealous as hell and is causing more stress. Meno is hell as well. Don't know if stress is making meno symptoms worse or if meno is making stress worse. Either way I'm not in a good place at the moment. Sorry to dump this on you all,

Stress is making your symptoms worse.   Did you get Legal advice Witches Cat; I didn't think that fees had to be paid by family.   :-\

Hello CLKD, yes we had advice, father was paying a thousand pounds a week because he had "half a house" the other half was my husband's, and we have to find the rest. They (the county) wanted it in 90 days.... so many problems, even the funeral was almost cancelled because a family member wouldn't sign paperwork...
